Anyone here have tinnitus? And if so how loud is it? Can you hear ringing in your ears all day long? How did it happen?

I have had it for several months long ago but it went away… I have heard stories where it lasts a lifetime and can be really loud all day long.

I use earplugs now for loud stuff far more often than I did when I was young.

Ive got a Brother that has it pretty bad. Its tourture. It never stops. He taps the back of his head and it stops for a minute.
He should have worn ear plugs. Hes a Drummer.

I have a gentle noise in my ears, but it sounds like bugs on a warm summer night. I enjoy it. How lucky is that!.

I’ve seen some posts from other members about having tinnitus in the past. Use the “Search Forums” function in the right sidebar if you want to check them out.

As for me, I have just a touch of permanent tinnitus. It bugs me sometimes when everything is dead silent and I’m trying to get to sleep. It’s a very high-pitched ringing. I can get past it by turning on a fan and masking the ringing with the “white noise” of the fan. But it’s a minor problem, and most times I don’t even notice it from one week to the next.

They say that old rock stars are sometimes prone to having real bad tinnitus in their old age. They can use “white noise” machines to try to dampen the sound (like I do with the fan), or use hearing aids to jack up the volume of normal sounds over the ringing of the tinnitus.

Wikipedia says that 10-15% of people have tinnitus, but only 1-2% are bad enough to be a real medical problem.

Mine was kind of like you describe. It was loud enough to hear all day long, but nothing too crazy. It would get louder later in the day as well. It lasted a few months… How loud is your brothers? Is hit hard for him to hear over it or something?

    Wear those ear plugs men.

If you get in the car in the morning and the radio is too loud, it means you are being exposed to excessive noise during the day.

Don’t be a tuff guy. You will go deaf.

    Great advice
I know so many men with hearing aids and everyone of them can tell you what happened to make them wear them. A few are attributed to disease, but more than 90% are noise exposure. They are not only a pain in the ass to wear, but they are expensive.
I keep the these in my car as I go to lots of concerts and see lots of bands. There not good for shooting but great for loud music.

I have a hissing in both ears and a faint ringing in one. The first is caused by damage from meningitis, the other due to neck and muscle damage from a motorcycle accident.

I notice it sometimes when going to sleep, but generally just tune it out.

Oddly enough, although I have some hearing loss, my hearing can be very sensitive too. I often wear ear defenders at night to cut out outside noises that would otherwise disturb me.

Don’t be a tough guy – use protective equipment.
