Hurricane country here, if you are not a prepper then you are the one SOL.
These are the people you see on TV out in the storm looking for supplies. Or running to the store last min to get something sold out/or right after when no store is open. Not many, but you can always count on a few.

Right now I stock water and canned. Once I get some lingering money issues taken care of, going to up the game to MRE/Camping style meals. Even looking at going old school with

It may not seem like much compared to MT, SD, ND, ID, and other places, but there is a whole lot of “empty” in northern New England.

I’m serious about that. A SHTF scenario seems as good a time as any to get out and hike, for example, the Pacific Rim Trail. At least for a few weeks until the first few rounds of chaos have settled down. Then make plans from there depending on the situation.

Pretty much. If its a hurricane or something that might just f~~~ s~~~ up for a week before outside help arrives, that kind of stuff really doesn’t require much prepping. I generally have some canned stuff and cereals and stuff in my cabinets anyhow…but worst case scenario its not like your going to die of starvation in a week even if you have almost nothing to eat. Its the guys sitting on tens of thousands of rounds of ammo and 3 months worth of MREs that confuse me. If the s~~~ hits the fan bad enough that those things are an asset, eventually you run out of MREs and when you have to go out and find something more sustainable you can’t carry a whole lot of that ammo with you lol.

I’d just think in a total SHTF scenario a fishing pole, a crossbow for hunting, and some basic survival skills in the middle of nowhere is a more desirable situation than 50,000 rounds of ammo and a pallet of MREs in the middle of the suburbs.

Tbh I am thinking a sailing boat with solar cells is a better option.

The average home around here, perpper or not is sitting on several thousand rounds of ammo. Know some guys that have arms to outfit a small army. Adding in a rotation stock of 3 or more months of MRE’s just daily life in this neck of the woods.

I prepare for hurricanes by not living anywhere near that corner of the country.

Seriously, if I had a job in Houston I think I’d own property in, I don’t know, wherever the f~~~ Lubbock is, and rent in Houston. On the second floor. Whenever a hurricane rolls in, well that would be time to go check on the old homestead up state.

Certainly if it’s all in one big pile. Anyone with that much survival swag should be wise enough to cache it around a bit. A thousand rounds and two weeks MREs here. A thousand there… Well hidden, but readily accessible if you find yourself passing through in need.

I think it makes more sense to build a fort that can accommodate an infantry section and their families sustainably, old west style.

Much of it is. Many don’t understand economics and don’t realize we are already suffering a market correction (“Retail apocalypse”). That is what essentially a collapse is a “market correction” which mean industries many times go out of business or restructure their business to realign with market forces. People and preppers mostly imagine Venezuela is the only real version of a collapse. Venezula’s collapse came from specific market forces created by the government. The same with other scenarios you mention, a lot of them require specific factors to be in place for them to happen. People don’t really know what is going on and are filling in gaps with their imagination.

That said, not prepping is really a bad idea. Not because it is definitely going to happen, but because clearly there is intentional political/media balkanization of the US and there are obvious risks for waiting till it starts to get ugly to decide to find people to network with in a deteriorating situation. Most don’t realize why there is an intentional balkanization.

Further, Hollywood movies like “dawn of the dead” or “zombieland” are silly because you don’t just form a group of people when s~~~ gets ugly. Trusting new people in those situations is a luxury you can’t afford. This isn’t Japan where the community and behaviors of the populace is homogenous. Further you want to weed out right now people who you think you may not want to work with and find out who you want to work with. In a way, its really like finding like minded friends and making sure you all have a pool of skills.

I’m planning on bugging in with my own well-armed and well-equipped group.

In the unlikely event we’re forced to bug out, I have the ideal place picked out. Hopefully no one gets there first. But if we get there, it’ll be real fricking hard for anyone to get us out of there, unless they have artillery or air power.

The largest group of looters, armed or not, will simply be f~~~ed.
