Pretty much. However, this is the first step towards having the First Amendment apply to the internet, so it might actually end up being a good thing–because now I’m pretty sure Twitter can’t touch the POTUS account (they certainly can’t ban Donnie now, like Commifornians have been threatening Jack should).

He is using Twitter in an official capacity, related to his holding of office as president. Because he is using it such a capacity, the courts determined he can’t censor this:

This is what the First Amendment says:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

You use a communication channel to reach the citizens, retweet stuff they say, and open it as a form of communications, the courts decided you can’t interfere with this. A channel to the president needs to remain open. What he should do now, if he were acting presidential, is use Twitter in a more formal manner, and have it so that what is seen is filtered and cleaned up, and left alone. But he doesn’t do that. He has comingled his personal and office side, which gave us covfefe and a bunch of other wonderful brainfarts that are impulsive on the moment stuff.
