((WARNING, SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE AHEAD! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!))

Okay so I’m not going to cover the whole plot, I will leave a link to Wikipedia if you want to read it yourself.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirates_of_the_Caribbean:_Dead_Men_Tell_No_Tales

But if you want a pretty good movie this summer that is on par with guardians of the galaxy, this is it.

Pirates 5 sees the epic return of Jack and his crew, but it also introduces Henry Turner, the son of Will. Henry seeks Posidens trident, which gives its user command of the seas and everything in it, to break his fathers curse as the captain of the Flying Dutchman.

Henry was actually a pretty epic character, he was fighting through the whole film, had some great moments with Jack and the crew, and the father-son bond between Henry and Will is really well done.

Jack has some more humorous moments in the movie, it starts off with him robbing a bank by stealing… the ENTIRE bank, you’ll see what I’m talking about, Jack has still has plenty of vigor and the flashback sequence shows why he is such a feared pirate.

Now personally I was worried that the one brunette chick in the film, who’s name I think was Katrina, was going to be the embodiment of feminism. I’m glad to say this ain’t so.

In fact I wonder if the writers have someone that’s Mgtow but didn’t say anything, because at the beginning of the film she’s accused of witchcraft, and it becomes a running joke with the other pirates screaming “Witch!!” everytime she starts getting naggy. Was pleasantly surprised.

The villan, captain Salazar, is not quite on par with Davy Jones, or Barbossa in the first film, he has some spooky scenes, but Jack relentlessly taunts him every chance he gets, so he never comes off as too threatening. However it’s a Disney villan, so you know what to expect.

If I had to critique some points, I don’t have many, but the movie is quickly edited and a lot is always happening on screen, so bring a p~~~ bottle, because you will miss a lot if you take a 5 minute pee break, the movie has very, very few slow moments.

Also Jack seems a little more wasted then usual, which fits the character, but made him feel more boggly in this film, because he doesn’t take anything seriously in the movie, Salazar is trying to kill him and all he does is make fun of him. It felt like they were trying to make him like rocket from guardians of the galaxy, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

All in all though, this film was pretty good, and the new characters were well written, you got some fresh faces and plenty of old ones returning.

Also there are no ridiculously overt political tones that Disney shoved in there anywhere, so that was nice too.

    I give it a 8.75.

    But that’s just my opinion.

Thanks for the review! How would you say it compares to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th? That would give me a good idea as to whether I want to see it or not.

Probably better then the 4th, but not as somber as the 3rd.

I think I’ll stick to reading books and listening to classical music. I don’t want the garbage they’re selling. Feminism or not, it’s nothing but rot.

I saw Pirates at the theater, and then noticed it was being offered at 123movies. How did they get it so quickly, I wonder? I love the banter between Katrina and the crew as she reveals she’s actually a horologist…one who makes maps. But, that isn’t how the crew takes it. (My mum’s one, too, but she doesn’t brag about it…LOL) It’s a good movie for a Disney flick. I see there’s a remake of the Mummy coming out soon. And the Dunkirk movie is on my must watch list.
