    Hey fellas,

I am thinking really hard on applying for a local college-paramedic program. Now I know it’s a stressful job, but the pay is good. I just have had enough of factory work and low pay. There’s no way to survive in this s~~~.

I already have a diploma in Biotechnology, but that haven’t got me far. Anyone on here works or have worked in this field to give some advice for me? Also I know it’s very hard to get a job as you have to be very good at it. So what should I prepare and be prepared for if I go for it?

Personally, If I desired to work with people needing medical care, I would try and become a nurse or x-ray tech.

At least in the states, there are Many jobs, more types of jobs in different settings, and the pay is MUCH HIGHER.

You’ve kinda been all over the map with big ideas lately.

It is a dangerous enough job in Australia, assuming you are in America I would say it could be like being in a war zone.

Not sure how things work over there but here there are blood collecting jobs where all you do is take people’s blood when the doctor wants tests done. You could look into that as well as nursing or even being a GP Doctor given you seem capable of studying and understanding sciences.

How strong is your back? Hoisting a landwhale out of a basement totally sucks.

You may do better there, but the hours are allover the place, you don’t get to leave a three hour accident scene just because your shift is over. The drawback is human blood, it’s pathogens, and your exposure, it can be dangerous, I would carry spray bleach in a garden sprayer for some of the scenes I’ve witnessed being there with the first responders and the last one to leave the scene, I’ve seen blood and guts by the gallon!

If blood curdling cries of agony and death make you quiver then it’s likely something that will bother you and can easily burn you out.

You’re gonna see some pretty f~~~ed up people alive mixed with the dead.

Just the other day I hauled a boiler out of a basement hatch entry using the Tow-Truckster! By myself!

The problem with nursing is that I’d be dealing with lots of c~~~s. Medical tech or lab work also involves lots of landwhale c~~~s, and this job will soon enough vanish due to advances in tech.

    Nahhh. Go for nurse training.

If you have the brain go for nurse school or doctor.

If you are in Europe nurses are on high demand.

To those following me, be careful, I just farted. Men those beans are killers.

Sorry, I don’t want to offend any male nurses. But is that the case at all?

You would be less isolated for a start. And who says your paramedic partner wouldn’t be a woman anyway?

Seen as a f~~? Does it even matter?

Good point. Well it doesn’t cause well initially nurses were men anyway. Before women took over that is.

    a local college-paramedic program.

While stressful, paramedics are usually very busy and there are always opportunities. Send Hitman a PM for EMT/Paramedic specific questions.
Old School could answer EMT/Paramedic questions from the stand point of being integrated with a Fire Station.

A couple of things about Nursing degrees.

    1) you need to have a 4 year degree and not a two year. They are cutting out those 2 year nurses who do not complete their 4 year degrees.

    2) Do not get a licensed practical nurse degree unless you want to work at a nursing home. 25 years ago this was a valuable degree, today it’s nothing but paper.

    3) Expect more Non-US nurses to come to the States for work at lower wages as US nurses want high pay, shift differential, overtime, etc, etc, etc. Hospitals and medial systems are no longer paying tons of money.

    x-ray tech.

Per Awakened, a route with little competition at the moment is indeed Medical Imaging. X-ray, CAT scans, echo cardiograms, ultra sounds are all completed by technicials but read by MD’s.

    Best of luck.

    IIRC
You are currently in the GTA, correct?
If you decide to get into the nursing/paramedic/medical field you have an excellent chance at snagging “isolated” postings. Just pull in and maintain good grades/results, and let it be known you are willing to do duty in those areas. That opens up the on and off shore oil rigs, shipboard postings, and remote isolated postings.
    -Edit-
That is inclusive of both national and international jobs.
