I was chatting with a guy who has a PhD in a stem field that cant find a job. his PhD was too narrow and no one will hire him for BS stem work because he is over quailified.

He’s told they are afraid he’ll leave if he gets a better offer/ in his field. He hasn’t had a job in his field in 6 years.

    Load of BS.

    I am not surprised.

This is what I mean by university being a scam. It sells students the lie of “creativity”, however on the job, creativity is a big no no and gets shot down, by the status quo, like a German WW2 plane. The elite want people, i.e. cogs, to keep the big machine in operation, not to think creatively. Funny because the universities are owned by the elite.

A tranquil mind is neither happy nor sad, it is uninfluenced by external conditions.

That is the excuse a company gives when the person is not the race/gender they want to hire.

They’re part of the neo-liberal paradigm. If it can be marketed and sold, it will. Hence why UK universities favour overseas students over UK citizens (because universities charge more for overseas students), why universities sell online studies overseas, and why universities have marketing departments. They’re run like businesses. Unfortunately, most don’t realise until they graduate… with 5 figure debts clocking up interest. Oops, of course, the student loans company is also owned by the elites.

I graduated in 2013 in psychology. It was a lifelong ambition of mine, and I love learning. I always knew I’d go back to truck driving. However, some of the poor f~~~ers who didn’t try hard enough got lower 2nd and 3 rd class degrees to compliment their 5 figure debts. They don’t stand a f~~~ing chance, and they were conned all the way by a) parental expectations, b) university being an accepted and unquestionable norm for middle class kids, and c) the continual lie espoused by governments that a degree is a passport to a more prosperous life. They’re right, it is a passport to a more prosperous life… for those who own the universities and student loan companies! Chin chin! Champagne all round!

There are several issues with a PhD.
They might leave is not one of them. Truth is nobody wants to hire them because they become over academic.
Too much book smart and not enough street smart can make them difficult to train, easily bored or can’t adapt to company culture.

Many have spent years in research and have difficulty with redundant types of work and with social skills.

I sit on hiring panels all the time and the PhD is a redflag to many of those hiring.
When we hire the resumes are sorted by no-degree and phD they get pulled out and then either Masters or BS go to the top depending on the job level and pay. AA can get you an entry level job. Even a Masters degree is something you need to consider if the cost is worth the benefit. Experience counts for a lot.

Advise your friend to pull some of the education off his resume based on what they are looking for. If it says Masters Degree then just go to Masters. This is acceptable because you don’t have to put everything on a resume. Just don’t say you have something you don’t have.

A PhD has a Masters degree so they are not lying.
If they say ‘Why didn’t you say you had a PhD’
    Answer, “You didn’t ask.”

If you rescue a damsel in distress, all you will get is a distressed damsel.

PhD stands for Piled Higher and Deeper. We all know what BS stands for and MS, too.

That’s because the vast majority are blue pill wankers approaching things from a blue pill mindset.

Did you ever think you’d see the day when this stopped being a joke and became reality?

The answer is NO. “I could but I won’t”. Memini murum!

Those are the laws of the market.

You study more, you sense that you worth more.
You hire someone who spend 20 years studying, and pay it like they are graduated, they will be frustrated.
You hire a fresh-out-of-college kid, pay that much and it will work happy !

Too board or too narrow, both are things that you need to avoid in your career. I’ve been there, too focused on one thing, there wasn’t demand on the market for my anymore, then I started to “expand horizontally” my knowledge, another shot in my foot, I become someone “that doesn’t know how to do certain things very well”.

Is the rule of thumb, both extremes are bad. You have to find somewhere in the middle where you can life.

Where I live, that kind of specialization is only worth to one thing, to work in universities.

It’s a much more simple answer to this. A PhD would demand a higher salary. You can pay someone with a Bachelors or a Masters pennies on the dollar compared to what you would have to pay someone with a PhD.

The decision not to hire him is a financial one, i’m willing to bet.
