Ok, I don’t know what that other thread was that was talking about guns, but there was no gun talk. I’m a southern boy, I love guns, and I really enjoy talking about them. So let’s have a legit conversation about some of our favorite guns and ammunition. Tell us what your favorite setup is, what your currently building, review a gun you like, review a gun you don’t like. Whatever is on your mind, let the s~~~ fly. This is good ol’ Venom here, so you know i’m not having the bulls~~~ that other guy was doing.

This is quite possibly my favorite rifle ever. Fellas what you are looking at is the Mossberg MVP LC (Light Chassis). It is a bolt action rifle that can be bought in either a .223 or .308. It takes AR-15 magazines, comes with a 10 mag. Perfect for hunting and guaranteed to drop whatever you shoot right in it’s place. It uses 165 grain, .308 Winchester Federal Ammunition.

What kinda guns you guys running around with.

Venom, that is a nice rifle. With that scope and bi-pod, I guess you have no problems hitting a target at a thousand years with that rifle?

Got it sighted in at 500 yards, but im sure it could go 1000 yards easy.

I posted this on the other thread but it fits here as well.

I like your Mossberg but I think I will stick to my K11 and K31—I’m very old fashioned. how much does that Mossberg rig weigh? It looks like something I’d hate to lug around the bush.

Does anyone have anything that fires the 338 Lapua?

I don’t have anything as fancy as that Venom, but I just picked up one of these recently in 9mm. Controls are a little forward, including trigger, and finish is not A+, other than that, an awesome gun. Going to be taking a CCW course sooner or later and then try to get licensed, this will be my daily carry. With the way things are going in the U.S. it looks to me to be a good idea to be armed as the bulls~~~ is clearly on the rise and I wouldn’t mind a decent chance at survival if I ever get caught up in some crazy s~~~.

but I just picked up one of these recently in 9mm

CZ makes excellent stuff, I prefer the older CZ 75 that was basically a Browning HI-Power knock off. And of course the EAA Witness (Tanfoglio) is a rip off of the CZ/Browning and I have three of those–9mm, 45 ACP and 10mm.

I don’t know how rugged the PO1 is since it has an aluminum frame. I would be interested to know how it hold up over time. My S&W 38 has such a frame and its doing very well. However I just finished repairing friends Spanish Ruby which also has an Aluminum frame and I really had to do some work on it in order for it to function properly and this was due to he weakness of the metal.

I’m glad you are doing the CCW EVERYONE should!

WOW that is somehow lighter than either my Schmidt or my Mauser—the wonders of modern polymers!

I have heard that the CZ-P-01 had to pass crazy tests and is one of the few NATO guns out there. It has a NATO serial number… Should I be concerned with +P ammo? I haven’t read about any problems with this gun so far.

I use what I am comfortable with, fits my budget and application needs
    My primary hunting rifle.
    Weatherby .270 with a bi-pod that extends 36′. I use 150gr Winchester bullets mounted with a 3x12x50 Quigly scope.
Controlled range shooting (paper target)- best shot 5 rounds (including magazine change) within 3’at 1200m in prone position. I lost $50.00 for being the worst shot.
Open range shooting (hunting) < 600m sitting/kneeling, minimum of 1 buck per season.

I am currently looking at buying something awfully familiar to Venom’s gear.

My pistol is Ruger SR9 9mm “stock”. 115gr rounds
I only adjusted the “iron sites” and trigger pull to my “tastes”.

My favourite rifle is illegal in Canada.
    FNC2 A1 7.62 NATO with Startlight/Thermal Scope – I guess I was a bit of a glutton for punishment when I was young.

    My favourite pistol.
    Browning 1911 9mm “High Powered”
AKA My old service pistol. I became somewhat proficient with it.

Currently I am not looking for one due to price and restrictions.

My favourite knife is the Fairbairn-Sykes

I have heard that the CZ-P-01 had to pass crazy tests and is one of the few NATO guns out there. It has a NATO serial number… Should I be concerned with +P ammo? I haven’t read about any problems with this gun so far.

You’ve done your research! and I found this for you:

“The CZ P-01 is a compact, aluminum-framed 9mm designed for LE and Military duty, but its compact size and the reduced weight due to its forged alloy frame make it ideal for discrete carry as well. Equipped with a dec~~~er, the P-01 provides convenience for those who prefer hammer-down carry. With a heavy first-round trigger pull, any additional shots are a light, crisp single action.

The P-01 was the first CZ model to benefit from updated manufacturing technology at CZ’s Uhersky Brod factory. Since the time of its introduction (designed in 2001, NATO-approved in 2003) the production upgrades have been rolled out to the rest of the CZ 75 family and several new rifle models as well.

These upgrades mean the components of the P-01/P-06 are completely interchangeable with every other P-01/P-06, with no individual fitting needed. This required some very careful re-design so that the reliability and accuracy were not impaired.

With an integral 1913 accessory rail on its dust cover, the P-01 easily accepts any of the industry-standard lights and lasers to assist with low-light use.

After 3 years of some of the most aggressive small arms testing ever, the CZ P-01 won the honor of replacing the CZ 75s previously used by the Czech National Police.

Reliability: The U.S. Army “Mean Rounds Between Failure” (MRBF) requirement is 495 rounds for 9mm pistols. During testing of the CZ P-01, the average number of stoppages was only 7 per 15,000 rounds fired. This is a .05% failure rate or an MRBF of 2142! For many years, the P-01 carried an NSN engraved on its frame, making it the first NATO-spec pistol ever available to the public. Recently, the factory decided to upgrade the slide stop spring which in turn means the current models may or may not carry an NSN.”

    Hard to argue with that.

On the issue of +P if you are using factory +P like Speer Gold dot 124gr, or Magtech Guardian Gold 115 gr or the heavier Remington Gold Sabre 147 you’ll be OK. Don’t worry about the slide popping off and hitting you in the face BUT it is an alloy frame and over time–with hundreds of that kind of ammo I don’t know if it will loosen the tolerances.

However I would NOT use custom made +P from a gunsmith like me. Reason: my =P is more powerful than the commercial stuff. A friend of mine was being deployed over-seas a couple of years ago and I made him some ammo for his M9 or the Beretta 92 if you prefer. He was at my place testing some out and they had much more punch than the issue ammo (149 gr HP) with enough juice to get them up to well over 1000 FPS at the muzzle. His gun didn’t blow apart but the recoil was something he wasn’t used to. Tried some in a S&W 59, and an Astra A-75–no blow ups but these are all steel weapons.

    Hope that helps.

Ruger makes great stuff but the Browning is tough to beat even though for auto loaders I favor EAA I’m a wheel gun guy myself. And last year picked up my dream gun: S&W 25-7 Big N-frame chambered for 45 colt using modern smokeless powder. Sometimes older guns chambered for this round can only handle slow burning powder and cannot handle the high pressure stuff but this Smith can. I carry 255 gr. hard-cast (no HP) backed by 4.5 grains of Red Dot WOW.

I love my M1 Garand. I take it shooting as often as I can. I also like my Ruger 10/22. I have subsonic ammo for that to keep the squirrels and rabbits out of my f~~~ing garden.

I want to get a suppressor for my Ruger. Listen to this…

    MEN:

My favorite rifle which I have a owned since 1979, is a H & K ( Heckler and Koch ) .308 caliber . I have it with the bipod, and excellent scope mount, and a buffer for protecting the discharging brass so you can reload the brass multiple times. The scope is 9x. I can easily hit a target the size of a basketball at 500 yards. The clip holds 30 rounds. You can use the rifle in the swamps drop it in the mud and water pick it up and it keeps on shooting accurately … as Semi automatic reload of the rounds, is not gas operated.
My favorite handgun is a government issue 1911 Colt .45 … which I do reloads for those as well. I also purchased that brand-new and had modifications made to it, in 1978.

My age is now 70. I got those weapons when I was 33.

CORRECTION: I meant to type 1500 yards, not 500 yards.

You Americans are lucky guys. In some Europen countries even carrying a pepper spray is a crime, like in Denmark.
