Just some random thoughts from personal experiences and observations.

I remember when I was about 12 years of age, my father was angry/p~~~ed off with my sisters behavior.
She is four years older than me, but back then I recall there was a period she often got into arguments
with my parents and it was always my old man that had the last word. At that time I did not fully understand all of it, but none the less I listened to him berating her with a sense of gleeful satisfaction. Things like “your brother is more mature than you and he is four years younger!” or “ask
your brother if you don’t know”.

My sisters world revolved around colors, smells, fashion and boyfriends and almost no responsibility.
Responsibilities I mostly understood and adhered to like majority of the boys my own age. Doing things on
time, being honest, not lying and all that other moral and ethical jargon we are taught, or at least should have been taught by our parents.

I honestly can not remember my mother ever laying down the law, so to speak. What ever instructions about do’s and dont’s she had given us, rarely if ever were as important as what the old man had to say. Her way of caring and instructing was different. More importance was given to being clean, fed and having your scratches bandaged. Almost a total opposite of the old man approach to parenting.

Well I hate to ramble on for a too long a time, so I’ll finish with what I had concluded many years ago.
In general, women have a lot of influence in raising children, but that is where the influence stops.
Father’s, if they are around are the ones that drag the kids kicking and screaming into adulthood if necessary.
I repeat, it is women who raise children but it is the fathers that bring them into adulthood.

I would say that is often pretty much bang on, expect that boys are the ones taken into adulthood.

You are right. Mothers raise babies, fathers raise men. And with the absense of fathers now-a-days, you can only imagine what type of men we will have in the future.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
