Punggye-ri, North Korea’s nuclear test site has collapsed in on itself. It’s been reported for the past year that the mountain has become increasingly unstable. It was obvious to me that this is why they’ve ceased testing any further thermo-nukes there. There was even speculation that another test could blow the mountain apart and that China had stepped in demanding a halt to testing. Here is a report from the South China Morning Post:

“North Korea’s mountain nuclear test site has collapsed, putting China and other nearby nations at unprecedented risk of radioactive exposure, two separate groups of Chinese scientists studying the issue have confirmed. ”

So it appears that Un’s declaration of a halt to nuclear weapons testing was to be taken at face value as they were not able to test further within the DPRK. Hence the threat to explode a thermo-nuke over the Pacific last year. Just my opinion..

Don’t we have a bunch of those radioactive zit caverns that can also collapse in ejecting the hot contents into the atmosphere? You know, like the decaying Chernobyl plant in it’s cardboard tomb.

So these f~~~ing idiots hollowed out a mountain with a bunch of stopes nuclear mining style and now they’re about to have a cave in? How much pumped and poured concrete is it gonna take to shore up a hollow mountain? How much is this gonna cost the world community?

Tower, I like checking out the Nevada Test Site on Google Earth now and then. Pretty amazing stuff! You are correct, so much of the Eastern U.S. was covered in fallout from the decades of testing we did. Still cool to look at.
