On June 30, hours before the policy took effect, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis postponed the opening of military enlistments to transgender people for an additional six months. The delay does not prevent currently serving soldiers from transitioning, however. It is intended to give the joint chiefs more time to review and mitigate the Obama-era rule’s impact on the “readiness and lethality of our [armed] forces.”

Late into President Obama’s last term, his military officials allowed transgender soldiers to serve openly, even funding gender-change surgeries with taxpayer dollars. Former Defense Secretary Ash Carter set a July 1 deadline for all four military branches to write policies for accepting openly transgender enlistments. Formerly, soldiers exhibiting gender dysphoria were automatically discharged.

Military As Social Engineering, Not National Defense

The force-wide presentation sheds quite a bit of light on the implications of the rule change on transgender service members. The policy prioritizes subjective feelings over combat-readiness and inverts military order by placing the needs of individuals over the well-being of their units.

The policy allows transgender soldiers to switch their “gender marker” in the Army’s personnel database without undergoing sex reassignment surgery or any other physical changes.

For a soldier to officially change gender requires only some paperwork. A military doctor or civilian medical professional must certify that the transgender person has achieved “stability in the preferred gender” and the soldier must change the gender designation on the soldier’s passport or birth certificate. From that point on, the transgender soldier is “expected to adhere to all military standards associated with their gender,” and “use the billeting, bathroom and shower facilities” of their new gender.

While I don’t agree with this DOD policy, I wanted to take a moment to add my two cents to conversation as it is significantly skewed based upon the article referenced. Having a policy is place actually will make it easier to discharge those soldiers who are mentally incapable of performing their duties because of perceived sexual orientation views.

This is another example of internet news on a slow news day. The article headline is a misrepresentation of the DOD Military Training Slides. The vignette referenced is about a “Female” soldier in the shower who displays male genitalia after going through the transition process “Because she did not undergo a surgical change, the Soldier still has male genitalia.” Since the “Female” has supposedly undergone the procedures for switching from male to female, “She” must be accorded the status of being “female” within military culture, this include restroom facilities.

While the overall Transgender Inclusion policy is certainly controversial, it ultimately will have a minimal impact upon current and future US Military operations as the affected number are minimal. There are several reasons that might have caused DOD leadership to delay this policy implementation besides the obvious:

1) The DOD’s current implementation policy states:
“Gender transition in the military begins when a Service member receives a diagnosis from a military medical provider indicating that gender transition is medically necessary, and concludes when the Service member’s gender marker is changed in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) and the Service member serves and is recognized in the preferred gender.”

2) “DOD initial accession policy will require an individual to have completed any medical
treatment that their doctor has determined is necessary in connection with their gender
transition, and to have been stable in their preferred gender for 18 months, as certified by
their doctor, before they can enter the military.”
The policy for this would have to go down to the lowest levels of recruiting command, not a quick process, to ensure that the correct documentation is identified. The 18 month policy would reduce the numbers of “troubled” teens running into the military to escape the “evils of society” and those who “don’t understand me”.

3) The US Military “Military Occupation skills” will need to be updated to accommodate the inclusion of “females” within a historically “male” career field. While this is an ongoing process, to completely inventory and change all career fields could not have been accomplished within one year.

There is no other way to for the military to proceed, there are only Males and Females in the Military. Others are those people kept outside the fence lines.

During my Army enlistment, we used to have a sexual harassment class every 3 months. I imagine it’s going to be every month since we have all this gender diversity.

I have a solution: KEEP ALL THE GENDERS & GENDER-BENDERS SEPARATED!

To me, it is not a good idea for men, women, and trannies to train together. There are too many situations (bathing, hygiene, physical contact) where people could be wary of sexual harassment or just plain repulsed.

There are some situations, in combat, where you have to check a soldier for injuries. That means you have to touch their body parts from head to toe. If a male soldier is ripping clothes off of a female soldier to attend to her wounds (and leaves her breasts/vulva exposed), how can he be sure that she won’t take him to court for sexual harassment, later on, and ruin his career? When soldiers are faced with life & death situations, there’s no time to think about political correctness.
