He seems to link prosperity with decadence, as if the two must always go hand in hand.

While it’s true that they often can, it’s not because they have to.

If America’s young population is largely decadent (and I would say that they are), that is not the fault of capitalism or prosperity. It’s the fault of lazy or morally bankrupt parents who failed to pass on a good work ethic to their children. The millennial generation has been born with a silver spoon in their mouths and has been brought up being told they are exceptional. They get participation trophies and are protected from being uncomfortable. Is it any wonder that they are useless in the workforce?

This isn’t any inherent flaw with capitalism. It’s a flaw with lazy parents who are too self-absorbed in their own wealth to pass on any life lessons to the next generation.
