I have decided to get my s~~~ together and have stopped smoking pot. A Stanford study found pot can cause heart attacks. Not a good high if you’re paranoid about dying from a heart attack especially with heart disease.

I really need to lose about 60 lbs. I’m diabetic, and my kidney function is at 30%. I’ve had one heart attack, and would like to stave off the next.

I don’t want to do a fad diet but one I can live with.
There’s the ketogenic diet, weight watchers, Atkins, nutrisystem, Yada yada. Not sure which is the best way to go.

I have started walking on the treadmill and making vegie smoothies in the vitamix, but am still have trouble getting the carbs where I want them. I frequently have Bambi legs, I get weak and shaky so I walk the treadmill when it goes away.

I recently picked up an Amazon echo dot. It has nutritionix which was designed by dietitians. You say “Alexa, tell food tracker I ate whatever” and it will tally your calories and carbs throughout the day so you always know where you’re at. There is an app for the iPhone where you can dictate what you’ve eaten so you keep track when you’re away. I am going to begin using it today.

I’m curious what works for you guys. I have to do this in a healthy way because my health is already compromised.

Brother making that decision is your first step to success. Before putting anything in you mouth ask yourself a simple yet honest question. Does it look like that in nature? If not don’t eat it!! Plant based whole food nutrition is the key brother. You can do it !!!!

    Peace is > piece.

    First. Good for you.
Second. Approach this process like a man — with cold logic, physics, and mathematics. Women approach weight loss with feelings and support groups. That’s if they bother approaching weight loss at all. They would much rather approach the buffet line.

    Terms:
Calorie [Kilocalorie]: The amount of energy required to raise 1 liter of water 1 degree Celsius.
    Food: Energy. Protein/Carbohydrates = 4 Cal / gram. Fat = 9 Cal / gram.
Fat: Our bodies long-term energy storage system. *** 1 Pound of fat is roughly equal to 3500 Calories and has an estimated 200 miles of blood vessels in it.*** Let that breathe for a minute. 200 miles . . .
Skeletal Muscle: Our bodies short-term energy storage system [along with the liver]. Our sugars [quick energy] are stored in skeletal muscle and the liver. The liver has a limited mass, however, our skeletal muscle is theoretically limitless. For this reason, get on a strength training system, ASAP. This will raise your Basal Metabolic Rate [BMR] and your body will be less likely to start storing excess Calories as fat.

Let’s do the math. If you run a 500 Calorie deficit every day, in one week, you will have burned 1 pound of fat tissue [500 Cal X 7 days = 3500 Calories]. You can do this many different ways. Consume 500 Calories less than you burn [with exercise and daily activities], burn 500 more Calories than you take in, or some combination of the two. One pound / week weight loss is a generally accepted rate for keeping the weight off. Good luck, and keep up the good work.

Plant based whole food nutrition is the key brother. You can do it !!!!

Fruits, veg, beans, and nuts, stay away from processed foods like frozen pizza, pot pies, canned soups, all that salty s~~~!

I had a V8 is the same as saying I licked a salt mine! Read the label! Hydrogenated means rancid oil (mono and diglycerides). Eat only triglycerides like extra virgin olive oil, it even smells like green life instead of rotten decayed death…

WFPB Whole Food Plant Based is the way to go Brother!

2 1/2 years ago I was a huge meat eater and enjoying lakes of booze. Hey what the hell, I deserve this,I work hard so play hard right?

August 14, I dug out my sneakers, threw on my running gear with the idea that I would go for a jog with my ex Welsh Wonder C~~~ (WWC) (see my Introduction) as she was whining about being overweight!

5Km and 50 mins later after blowing out of my ass the lesson was learnt.

WTF had I done to myself, 20 years Close Combat Vet (Armour & Recce) Followed by 10 years in the Defence Industry and I was a wheezing wobbly legged old timer- A huge wake up call or was I being fattened up by WWC!!!!

So I did a load of research and started from scratch with a progressive fitness and food programme. I cut out the booze, red meat and dairy.

One day at a time I said to myself. The days turned to weeks, the weeks to months. The weight came off as did the minutes for 5KM, which in turn spurred me onto increase the distance and research even more into nutrition.

Funny old thing though, as I started losing the weight and getting the old me back, WWC started to play away from home- accusation that I made it look too easy so she got disheartened (Male vs. Female Logic) and took up Horizontal PT with a male work colleague who organised her companies running club!!

I went from being full on Meat eater to Veggie to WFPB (Vegan) in under 12 months!

WWC was shown the door in Jan 15 and my diet/fitness regime pulled me through the De-C~~~ing and Blue Pill detox.

Yes, I let things slip in 2016 from when I reached 50 in March 16, and got back into bad ways Put on 28 pounds after slipping 5 discs in my lower back, but 2017, is my f~~~ing year again.

Jan 17, went full bore WFPB, have dropped 14lb with no PT, and have been given the OK to start training again so the remaining weight will fall off.

I totally agree with Solomans Wisdom, JVB and MG-tower- Apply logic, not emotion and the results will show themselves as clear as Night follows Day. I don’t buy any processed food and cook everything from base foods- AWESOME

I found it takes my body about a month to adjust to the change of diet, but it adjusts and does what my brain tells it to do

Funny old thing, not many 51 year old single slim fit Western males here in the Middle East (Kuwait), Tuna try to jump aboard my boat all the time- Hump, Dump, Hit them with the ZFG Paddle and toss them overboard. Great for the ego when required!!

    Tale of the Tape

    Start weight August 14- 15 Stone (210lb)
    Lowest weight June 15 -11 1/2 Stone (161lb)

    Fastest 5KM – 21mins Dec 15
June 15 32 mile Solo Ultra Mountain Marathon- 6 hours 22 Mins carrying 24lb daysack of gear.

You don’t put s~~~ fuel in your auto, so why do it to your body!

Go for it brother, some days you will relapse, hey we are only human, just reset the clock and carry on

Life's a bitch, then you're supposed to marry one and then die- sod that for a game of soldiers!

As a diabetic myself I can tell you one thing to avoid—diet soda. Yes there are no calories BUT the fake sugar in it acts like real sugar and has a tendency to stay in your body much MUCH longer than even real sugar does; so avoid it like the plague.

If you are like me and you like soda here is a solution. Get yourself some juice and carbonated water mix 1 part juice with four parts water…works OK as an ersatz soda.

    Cheers brother.

If you have the ability for an early morning work out would be ideal (if you want immediate weight loss that isn’t a fad have your morning coffee before your work out and eat after – give a nice boost to your metabolism for the day.

Cardio is key for overall health benefits (whether that is walking, jogging, or running – myself I keep it at jogging and walking outdoors daily – always mindful of the wear and tear on my joints/knees in the future) Get some weight training in there. If your just starting out and don’t have a gym membership no problem – google exercises using body weight – modified pushups, squats, farmers walk etc.
    — The reason I suggest weight training as well is that the more overall muscle you have the more calories your body will burn which is why people who first start and only do cardio plateau after a point in your training.

For food intake I’d agree with everyone else here stay away from the s~~~ foods and increase your water uptake. (Help cleanse your system, and will suppress your appetite/desire to grab some quick food you will just more full and have less cravings if your properly hydrated.)

I have found that I have to aim for a daily workout to be able to average a workout four times a week. Where I adjust is in the intensity of each workout. But you have to set the bar high somewhere. If you can, try to get in one of your daily walks outside, the fresh air and alertness get your juices flowing. In your case, and this is what I’ve heard from others with similar conditions, walking is your ticket. Keep at it, if you slack off, just let it slip, wake up one morning and write it off. Then reset your mind to aim high. Just keep on doing it, over and over like that. You will see your health improve. I knew of a heart attack survivor who got on the right track diet wise and exercise wise and greatly improved his physical condition.

Try calisthenics. I personally started with playing sports, then took a long ass break of smoking cigarettes and drinking booze a lot. Then got my s~~~ together, started lifting weights. Overdid it with supplements, f~~~ed up my stomach, pretty sure snapped some things because I was lifting too heavy. Then I discovered Frank Medrano which led me to calisthenics and body workouts. OMG. I f~~~ing found my physical passion. Now I can’t stop doing it. I do implement weights into my routine but 70-80% of it consists of doing s~~~ loads of pull ups, muscle ups, pushups and when weather allows it, I try doing some tricks like human flag stand and hand stand. With calisthenics you will never be big, but you will get cut and will feel f~~~ing great due to the full body workout routine boosting your natural testosterone production. Just google and youtube it. You’ll fall in love. Guarantee it.

Also try picking up boxing or MMA on the side. Like 1-2 times a week. Great cardio and will give you a huge confidence boost as well because you will know how to properly lay a few punches in case you ever need it 😉

Dude, tons of raw fruit and veggies, I’m telling you. 100% raw foods is too hardcore for most people, but if you get the fruit and veggies raw, that alone will make a difference. Cooking them completely destroys their nutritional value. Minimize your intake of processed foods, or if you can, cut them altogether.

I didn’t like it at first, but you feel such a difference once your body gets accustomed to it, and your s~~~s are way better too.

Thinking about this a little more after reflecting on what you guys have said. I don’t want to be on a diet I can’t wait to get off of.

It’s science, 3500 calories is a pound. If I keep it at 2000 calories a day with exercise I will lose weight.

I really like the echo dot using the nutritionix app. It keeps you honest. Just say, “Alexa, tell food tracker I just had a hand full of mixed nuts and it will tell you it is logged, you have just consumed however many calories and you have this many left for the day. I like knowing where I’m at and what I have left.

Whole Foods, especially veggies and fruit is the healthiest way to go. I am still eating tuna sandwhiches with 45 calorie Sara Lee multi grain bread and I still eat eggs, but gravitating to veggies especially leafy greens, fruit, nuts, seeds and legumes is a recipe for reversing heart disease which I need to do. I can’t eat raw veggies as I have dysphagia and dentures. I have to throw them in the blend tech and drink them.

The next thing is to join a gym and slowly start increasing muscle mass to increase metabolism. That should burn even more calories a day.

The important thing is to not make it a thang if I eat something that isn’t going to help me get where I want to be. Don’t waste emotional or mental energy on it which usually always leads to more f~~~ ups until I’m not doing it any more.

The other thing I’m doing is watching videos on how to change your mind set. If anyone has seen any good ones I’d appreciate it if you would share. Joe Rogan has a good one.

What is working for me is a low-carb, ketogenic approach touted by Vinnie Tortorich. I have insulin resistance and am pre-diabetic. This approach also supports the idea of staying away from all processed foods and foods with added sugar. He calls it NSNG (No Sugars/No Grains). I’ve lost 26 pounds in the last 45 days or so with no starvation. It’s more than a diet. I’ve totally changed my lifestyle and that makes it much easier to stick with.

Whatever you decide to, it has to be liveable. Let us know how you’re coming along!

Let’s do the math. If you run a 500 Calorie deficit every day, in one week, you will have burned 1 pound of fat tissue [500 Cal X 7 days = 3500 Calories]. You can do this many different ways.

    Calorie deficit is the key!
If you have health problems working out a lot in the beginning is a bad idea.
I had 79 kg and went down to 64 kg without too much exercise(only walking).

To keep it simple, this is what worked for me:
-Drink only water or natural juice(freshly pressed is the best)
    -Max 2 meals a day(after a while you can’t eat that much)
-Have 1-2 days a month you don’t eat anything(very healthy)
-If you work out, do so on an empty stomach, doing so you burn only fat and not what you eat.
-Diet-wise you can eat anything, except too much bread(starch, corn), and 0 sugar.

Don’t stress yourself too much(true about anything) about loosing weight.

I’ll put in a plug for the Mediterranean Diet.

One big consideration when choosing a diet: Is it something that you can maintain for a lifetime, or is it something that you’ll only do temporarily, which creates the risk that you’ll regain the weight or engage in “yo-yo dieting”?

If you want a healthy diet that’s easy to maintain for a lifetime, then I recommend the Mediterranean Diet. It basically just involves a switch to lean meats and lots of veggies, and then you get rid of animal fats (butter) and replace them with extra virgin olive oil, first cold pressed. (Mediterranean = olives.) IOW, it doesn’t involve a huge change in routine; mainly you just switch out a couple key elements to make your current diet more healthy. I’ve been doing the Mediterranean Diet for about 5 years, lost 70 pounds, and I don’t see any difficulty in continuing to eat that way for the rest of my life.

I go to the website WebMD.com for mainstream medical advice, and here’s what they say about it:

Some experts consider the traditional Mediterranean diet to be one of the healthiest in the world. It’s a dietary pattern that favors fruits and vegetables, monounsaturated fats such as olive oil, fish, beans, nuts, whole grains, and limited amounts of red wine and dairy. It can be a weight loss plan, if the foods that dominate the Mediterranean diet are eaten in moderation. Some experts say the diet may reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and heart disease.

    Link: http://www.webmd.com/diet/mediterranean-diet-directory

    And

There’s no question about it. Years of research have shown that the Mediterranean Diet is one of the healthiest around.

For weight loss, stick with it more than 6 months (preferably forever), get regular exercise, and watch your portions.

    […]

This diet scores big for heart health and longevity. Studies suggest it may make you less likely to get heart disease, lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, help you manage diabetes, and help you avoid certain cancers and chronic diseases.

    Link: http://www.webmd.com/diet/a-z/the-mediterranean-diet

Anyway, here’s where you go for further info:

–The diet originally started from a book titled “The Mediterranean Prescription” by Angelo Acquista, MD, published in 2006. Read that if you want to learn about the background of the diet in depth.

–Or you can just buy a lot of “Mediterranean Diet” cookbooks that have been published in the last decade.

–Or if you don’t want to get into a bunch of cookbooks and recipes, there are plenty of websites that will give you the basic outlines. You can just check out the basic food groups that it uses, and adjust your own diet accordingly. For example, the following link at WebMD will give you the very basics on the makeup of the diet. Just scroll down to the bottom of the webpage for the description of the food groups. Link: http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/tc/mediterranean-diet-topic-overview#1

I also have a blender and make a daily smoothie (spinach and fruits) for breakfast or when I just need a treat.

This is very simple and you don’t even need to exercise. I’m gonna cut through all the bulls~~~ and tell you the truth.

You need the Ketogenic diet. Low-carb moderate protein high fat. Avoid all sugar that most all. All refined carbs like bread pasta’s most fruit. It’s very simple it’s pleasurable your body when in ketosis will burn the fat you already have for energy so you don’t need carbohydrates which convert to glycogen. Basically you’ll be running on the most efficient store of energy you’re fat rather than sugar.

My mother her boyfriend and I have all lost a ton of weight on this diet with zero or minimal exercise. This is how you do it get healthy use Google.

Be professional be polite but always have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

After the ex left late Spring 2016, I moped for a while. Then in the late Fall, when I usually start to gain weight, I reduced than cut out entirely my moderate alcohol consumption. I stopped adding sugar to anything (coffee, tea, etc). Gradually, I switched from eating cereal in the morning, to oatmeal. (one can add fruit to oatmeal for more flavor).

I’ve eliminated bread, minimize any pasta or white rice or potatoes and consume many salads. I also don’t eat actual large meals. I mostly eat spaced out through out the day.

Example today: 6am: oatmeal 10am: can of soup 12pm-one grapefruit I have an apple left I will eat around 2:30pm. I never feel really hungry at any given moment.

If I want the occasional desert, like an ice cream cone, I eat that BEFORE any meal. I cut out milk, in favor of cheese, especially pepperjack cheese.

Lots of leafy vegetables, and fruit. Mostly raw or in a stew or salad. I also force myself to get adequate sleep and I drink lots of water and tea throughout the day, also contributing to feeling full and it helps digestion.

I’ve lost 15 pounds over the winter, with very little additional exercise.

I will automatically get more exercise now in the spring and summer with the resumption of yardwork, gardening and mowing.

All my life I've had doubts about who I am, where I belonged. Now I'm like the arrow that springs from the bow. No hesitation, no doubts. The path is clear. And what are you? Alive. Everything else is negotiable. Women have rights; men have responsibilities; MGTOW have freedom. Marriage is for chumps. If someone stands in the way of true justice, you simply walk up behind them and stab them in the heart-R'as al Ghul.
