I would like to first point out that I have been volunteering for about 3 months now in some sort of food preparation work, because I am trying to get my experience in food prep to become a cook’s helper or prep cook one day. I have already learned a lot more things on food prep, despite only volunteering like two days a week also.

Now after many years of finding what sort of job you should aim for if you want to live as a middle class person, just yesterday, I came to the conclusion that the best thing to do probably is to try to aim to become an accountant where you would just work in the private sector and you would not even bother to go for state/province credentials, where you would basically be bound to one part of the country, and I will tell you why:

-In being an accountant, you can actually have the freedom to have either a work life balance where you would only work like 20 hours a week to having a life where you can even work full time and even some over time, depending on what sort of employer you will have.

-Once you do the hard 4 years to get your bachelor’s degree, life will be easier later on, because you then do not have to really do a lot of continuous learning(because you do not have to update your credentials like to become a cpa) compared to going into computers, where the computer field is always evolving to the point where you would have to learn completely new things to get ahead. Maybe you would have to learn the new accounting programs as the years go by, but at least those updates from the previous generations of programs would not be that far in terms of being different.

-With your bachelor of accounting, you can even work over seas in some selected countries like Australia for instance.

-The job for being an accountant will not be as easily outsourced to other countries as compared to other jobs in doing low level accounting like bookkeeping. I believe that one person here even pointed out that it is not even worth outsourcing high level accounting to other countries.

-In accounting, the math in it is not actually as hard as let’s say getting into computers or engineering, since the most math you would probably even do at all at the highest level is business statistics and I actually think that I can do it.

-There is actually a outlook for an increase in future jobs in the accountant field in an American government job site, which is faster than average

The only thing negative about the accountant profession is that it can be a real mental grind, but it really doesn’t stop from you for only having a work/life balance of only working 20 hours if you wish if you would play your cards right, so it will not really be that bad. Like maybe I would work full time in the beginning, just to pay for my student loan, and once all my debts are paid, I can afford to finally have a work/life balance.

So to end everything off by the way, I would like to point out that right now I am in my early thirties and I actually tried a lot of things in life and even made a lot of mistakes that I learned from, and I must of also have read at least over 100 non fiction books in the past 6-7 years. Even after all that though, what really helped me gain a big insight about the world was when I watched 200 videos from this site’s video archive. I have even tried accounting in the past with some success, so that I know what I am getting into.

So with everything I said before that might even convince some young people to try to become an accountant with the points I made, I would like to end this post with a video by Aaron Clarey who is basically making an argument on why you should not try too hard in anything you wish to do until you are 35:

As for me, if I do wish to try getting a bachelor’s degree in accounting at 35, I might as well prepare by then, and even work a few years as a prep cook along the way. So what are your opinions on this topic?

Can’t believe this had no replies. How did you get on with your dilemma?
