Robotics is advancing quickly. Everyone knows that and Sophia is not the only example. It wasn’t until I needed a tooth surface replaced .. yesterday .. that it sunk into my brain how fast things are proceeding. It just hit me all at at once as I stood and watched the Bot with the blue colored lights create a new tooth .. in just a few minutes.

This post is not about dentistry .. as much as it is my admitting that I didn’t fully comprehend how soon the Bots will be .. let’s say mainstream. This may sound simplistic .. but I stood and watched my new tooth being fabricated completely by CAD-CAM Bot and I had what might be called .. an instant awakening .. that it’s happening now. It’s here.

The inner edge of one of my upper molars broke while chewing .. all that was left was the old filling and the outside wall of the tooth. I made appointment with my dentist and he prescribed a crown. I’ve had crowns done before and it took between a week to two weeks to get things fabricated and done usually taking two or three appointments.

This time .. it took 90 minutes and one visit for the entire job. I was literally “blown away” by the speed. He prepped the tooth in about twenty minutes or less .. took computer images and sent them wirelessly to a milling machine. The machine took about ten minutes to create the new tooth out of porcelain block and after test fitting another twenty to fire and polish new tooth. It was cemented in place in ten more minutes and I walked out the door with a job completely done. I was literally ‘weak in the knees’ by the speed that the Bot milling machine worked. The bite of the new tooth is perfect and the computer and Bot .. with a little assistance from a human .. basically, did it all.

Summarizing .. the Bots are here .. this would have taken at least a week prior to this new technology and I am typing here now .. knowing that the world we know it .. relationships as we once knew them .. soon to be replaced by a new world of ultra amazing Bots. I am a believer, that it will be happening sooner than I dared to expect, relationship Bots .. as well as lots of other devices .. will be residing on virtually every street. Have great weekend.

Yep. I have 5 [count them, five] of them. Really kick ass to watch a tooth surface being formed from a cube of polymer.

Ha, but will it bring the price down or does some guy at the top continue to get more and more of the money? And who is the dude out of a job now? I guess he better learn how to service that robot for 1/2 of the wages he was making before.

Gotta evolve with the times. I have 2 dentists in the family and even they admit they’re WAY overpaid. Benefit of insurance is overpricing services. They tell you to brush at least twice, recommended after each (3)meal(s), because it causes gums to recede resulting in more dental appointments/services. Key is to avoid a high sugar diet. I do the trusty Atkins and brush once a day for the past 10yrs. Not one cavity.

I hear ya there on all of that…

I too only brush once a day, and I often let the toothpaste bubbles sit in my mouth for five minutes or so while I shower, it’s like a mini fluoride treatment for your teeth now and then, just don’t swallow that s~~~, it ain’t good for ya. Only a couple cavities in my entire life and I am mid forties.

What you described is a CNC milling machine. Those have been around for decades. True the input maybe more advanced then in years pass but still just a CNC milling machine.

Get back to me when the tooth machine asks questions or targets you for termination.

Okay, trying to erase quotes from a quote of quotes now.

Use fluoride-free toothpaste. Even then, be sketchy! They may use different fluorides from the dental treatments to the toothpastes…I’m not chancing it. Think I had 1 cavity, 2 at the most. Was always assumed by dentists that I flossed faithfully lol. “Nope, medium bristles, once a day” I’d tell them. And they’d always advice me “Switch to soft and start flossing”, right…let me switch up what already had you fooled.

That’s nothing. I’ve studied genetics quite a bit, and we’re getting very close to being able to simply re-grow a tooth when the old one starts to decay. Bots will revolutionize many industries, but I think in the end it’s genetics and not technology that will usher in a new era for dentistry.
