Illinois woman, 35, ‘faked breast cancer and pretended to be confined to a wheelchair to attend a non-profit disabled camp where she was bathed and dressed by volunteers’
Sarah A. Delashmit, 35, from Highland, Illinois, has been charged with faking cancer and genetic disorders to receive financial assistance and other benefits
Delashmit faked a muscular dystrophy and spinal muscular atrophy diagnosis in 2015 and 2016 to go to a nonprofit camp in Dallas, Texas, for disabled people
She allegedly stole someone’s identity to apply to the camp
While at the camp, she pretended she was confined to a wheelchair and needed help bathing and getting dressed to keep up the act
In 2017 and 2018 she then allegedly faked having breast cancer to go on a trip to Florida, even posing in a ‘Survivor’ t-shirt alongside real cancer survivors
She swindled another non-profit out of donated items including a bicycle
Delashmit was charged with four counts of wire fraud, three counts of aggravated identity theft and one count of mail fraud in an Illinois court Tuesday
