    Answer: Too f~~~ing obese.

    But fat floats.

I think they were weighed down by all the excess stupid they were carrying.

Hey. I’m from Missouri and I don’t know how to swim. My body sinks like an anchor. I’m not obese either. I weigh 160 pounds, but would have definitely worn a life jacket if I would have been on that boat.

“Tia Coleman said passengers were told not to worry about wearing life vests”

Still trying to get facts, all I get is pop-up ads… lousy media.

Basically, it looks like no one was wearing life vests during the storm and sinking. From the looks of the video and design of the “vessel,” my guess is they weren’t even thinking about life vests or abandoning ship until they were all waist deep in water.

By then, it was too late, the vehicle was fully submerged in less than a minute (speculation). As you can see in videos, a Duck Boat is just a freaking VAN that can go across water. There was no escape. My guess is most the victims drown inside the boat.

I have to change my overall stance on Duckboats. They’re a death trap. There is no way for 30 people to all get off of the damn thing before it sinks. The captain and people who can’t swim are also stupid. Not saying they should ban duckboats, but would you get in one? It’s not a boat, you might as well take scuba gear with you. And honestly, even in fair weather, what a lame ride.

This is not hyperbole, if it had been me on that boat, I’d of already cut a hole in the siding and jumped off the boat and started swimming for shore way before the waves ever got that bad. Seriously, I’m spontaneous and I hate dealing with bulls~~~. I once abandoned my whole family at a NHL hockey game because some photographer bitch was taking pictures of me, trying to sell them when we came in the stadium. The event was a surprise birthday party for me. I left in the first 5 minutes and walked home, alone, 5 miles. I hate bulls~~~ and crowds of people and I will leave on a whim. Those waves, stuffed in a tin can shoulder to shoulder with strangers, making no progress across the lake, f~~~ that, I’m out. I can swim fair enough. I’m not a Recon Shark but I’d make it, especially with a damn life jacket LOL.

The whole story is f~~~ing stupid. LEARN TO SWIM. Learn to know when you’re in danger and get the f~~~ out of there.

I have to change my overall stance on Duckboats. They’re a death trap.

They were designed to get troops and material up out of the water and onto land as quickly as possible during amphibious assaults. For this they generally require clear weather and air superiority. They were never intended to be used as pleasure craft for fat tourists, especially not in inclement weather.

Blaming the duck boat in this is like blaming a chainsaw for a bad haircut.

I agree with you dude. I’m not blaming Duckboats really. I even said:

Not saying they should ban duckboats,

I think you will agree with me on this and I’m even proving the point you’re making. See pictures:

As you can see, this is what they were designed to do. In the photo, you have brand new fresh boats that run great (circa 1945) filled with able bodied men, even better, soldiers who know how to swim, lift their own weight and win a war. What a useful personnel and supply carrier!

    f~~~ing tourists

In the next picture, you have a worn out piece of s~~~ machine that has been repurposed against its original purpose. And it’s filled with, you guessed it, the worst of the worst, f~~~ing tourists! who are generally fat bodied women and children who can’t swim or lift their own weight, much less win a war.

So you have the original, fresh in 1945 filled with operators in a no-s~~~ combat zone. Then you have the kitty-ride death trap version, being used against it’s purpose, filled with nasty heinous civilians.

Im pro-duckboat and I would never want to ban them. Im just pointing out that they are being used improperly and as we can see, doing that makes them more dangerous, it turns them into a death trap.

Go see the video, it’s remarkable that people are that stupid. It’s like watching lemmings jump off a cliff. The boat is clearly f~~~ed, it’s making no progress, it’s taking on water. Yet from the reports we get, no one was putting on life jackets or abandoning ship. Very stupid people (TOURISTS) believe me, I deal with tourists everyday, never underestimate how f~~~ing stupid they are.

Anyway, I agree with you Sidecar, it aint the duckboat’s fault, it’s stupid people. But you do have to grant me, the watercraft is being misused. If anything, tourists need to be banned from Duckboats, not the other way around.

I read randomly that the captain didn’t bring any life jackets on the boat, but who knows. Also strange that there hasn’t been any stories about the captain, and his entire life, and how he maybe called someone a bad name when he was 18.

At least in the Philly video it looks like a few people jumped ship.

In Missouri it looked like they were maybe 100 yards from the shore. No reason if someone jumped overboard with a life jacket they wouldn’t have survived. I think most went down with the ship.

I’ll take a canoe or kayak any day over a duck boat

Why standing on train tracks is bad

Here’s a link to another contender for the Darwin Awards. How stupid do you have to be to not realize that standing on the tracks in front of a 1000 ton train moving at 40mph is a bad idea?

Frankly, I’m a little surprised the woman died, as her body wasn’t thrown very far and she didn’t appear dismembered. (Sorry to disappoint, Carnage.)
