As I try and minimalize my life, reducing the number of items I own by fifty to seventy five percent, I am finding a potentially dangerous bottleneck on the horizon. As I box and prepare items to be removed from my place .. unless I have a definite destination for these items .. I might start to entertain the most dangerous thought somebody trying to reduce clutter could have .. a storage rental unit to to store all my new boxes. See the danger?

My point is; unless I have a destination for each box of items (actually each item) as they are packed, they may go no further than the next storage location. If this were to happen I would not be minimalizing; I’d simply be starting a whole new hoard of neatly packed boxes.

Every box now must have a specific final destination or donation point written on it at the time of packing. Re-storing the boxes at some off site location is not an option. I’m finding it extremely difficult to part with many of the items I need to get rid of. There is almost the feeling of “gnashing of teeth” as I place those old favorite items into the box. I know I’ll probably never use them again .. but, maybe I could keep just one of each for old times sake.

I give my surplus to the thrift stores of charities I support.

I sell most of the stuff that I want to get rid of. It’s been a slow process, but I have sold a lot of stuff over the last year, and I have generated some extra cash.

Itemize them when you donate so you can get the tax break. Sell what you can. All good advise from the folks above. If you can set up your life where you can walk away within 5 minutes, you’re doing it right.

Don't stick your dick into anyone you aren't willing to put up with for eighteen years and nine months.

I play a game called decimation.

Using my book shelf for example. I go through and cull 1 out of every 10 books. It is gone, no hope of coming back. Then I wait a day or two and repeat, until I get to the number of books I want to have. At the end I have books that I really want and got rid of the impulse buy’s.
