You can’t have a little maniac running around with nuclear weapons, or ballistic missiles for them. Especially since he has made it clear he intends to use them on his opponents in the region. There is also a high risk of proliferation with NK and then you would have this sort of stuff potentially ending up the hands of even more dangerous groups.

I don’t care who cancels his nuclear program, as long as it gets done.

That was a statue of Mao Zedong, the brutal communist leader of China in the mid 20th century – millions died under his rule. The statue was demolished soon after its construction, but I don’t remember exactly why.

When I grew up during the cold war I always liked to point out that NATO and the eastern block countries were the only nations that possessed nuclear weapons. I called this Nuclear Unification Through Strategy. Mutually Assured Destruction was the end result of an actual attack. In conclusion, only N.U.T.S. nations have nuclear weapons, but to actually use them is M.A.D. North Korea may be both nuts and mad.

That is exactly what I am talking about. Best summary of the cold war I have read. N Korea is both nuts and mad. Fortunately, they are easily terminated. It is the consequences of that termination we need to contain.

Not always. A soldier does what is necessary. Killing another person may not be pleasant but it may also be necessary. I certainly respect your point of view and I admire the fact you embrace peace and reject the waste the war generates. War is loud, messy and painful. It is filled with horror but it also can bring out the best in people—the virtues of courage, honor, devotion to duty, comradeship etc.

The plain fact is that NK regularly threatens both the US and our allies. I might also point out that they have in the past attacked (with their navy) both Japan and SK. So the threat has to be taken seriously—especially since we know they possess nuclear weapons.

For my part I believe there are causes worth fighting for and if necessary killing and dying for. The preservation of our liberty is a good example, and to ward off an aggressor is another.
But because war is horrific it makes sense to end it as quickly and decisively as possible. As I have quoted before from Von Clauswitz–“the price of victory is blood”. There is no way around it.

I don’t believe you would have had us abstain from WWII, (of course had the US abstained from WW I there might not have been a WWII.) But that is another story.

Bingo, but some of the men in this forum love to hear about bombs being dropped, i read on another thread how they glorified trump on the recently dropped MOAB, I though you needed a declaration of war before dropping bombs on a foreign country? dictator in chief much?. I rest my case.

What people forget is the defense treaties involved. If North Korea fires a missile that hits Japan it is an act of war. And if Japan goes to war with North Korea the U.S. is drag in to fight with Japan and China is dragged in to fight with North Korea.

World War I started in a similar way.
