Anyone here or former military? I was on a few years ago and remember talking to a few guys. Between jobs and considering going in army. My hesitation is I would be fighting for this bulls~~~, israel etc, on other hand the adventure and friends could be worth it.

I’m NOT putting down the military in the slightest, but it’s a little hard to be a Free Man Going His Own Way when you’re enlisted in the military.

You have to Decide what YOU WANT to do !!

I’m prior service and I have the following thoughts—there is good and bad in everything.

    Good:
    Serving your country
    Making lifetime friends
    developing discipline
    Gaining knowledge
    Travel
    Earning $$$ for college.

    Bad:
Serving your country when your country does stupid things
Obeying the orders of people who are idiots
Obeying the orders of people who owe there position/rank to something other than ability/merit
Risking your life due to someone else’s foolishness

In the end serving is whatever you manage to get out of it THAT ultimately SERVES YOU and your purpose.

    Hope that helps.

There is the best and honest answer.

There was a time in my life when I gave a fuck. Now you have to pay ME for it

Fighter Ace here sir! WWII Europe and Pacific theaters sir! I flew Microsoft 109s’ p-51s’ and Zeros, did mostly dogfights and strafing enemy ground targets, 109s’ were mostly used in strafing B-17 bomber formations. I only got killed a million times!

Yes this ^^^ exactly! Consider also that unless you were born with a silver spoon shoved up your ass it is very likely that at certain points in your life you find that you’ll need to do things that might go against your personal values and/or judgement just to keep a steady paycheck coming in no matter what you decide to do. That’s just how the world works.

Best of luck to you with whatever you decide…

(Be sure to have a back-up plan if you decide to become a military pilot. The wash-out rate is high. Even if you already know how to fly an airplane, they only take the ones at the top of the list. Those who are the fastest and best learners.)

Yeah, but those two factors are not unique to the military. I found those exact same issues are there with the civilian jobs also…

Receiving your pilots license through the Armed Forces is more cost effective than doing so via the private license route, but as highlighted by PistolPete and Awakened, you have to decide what you will put up with.

Unless you have a 4 year college degree, you will need to contract as an Enlisted member (lots of bulls~~~) and apply for a Pilot slot (lots of time and lots of politics). Once you obtain the slot, and you obtain your license, you are then obligated for an additional 4-6 years of service.

You also do not get to choose the airframe you will be trained on. Thinks F-16 (air combat) vs KC-135 (refueling) or AH-64 Apache (attack) vs CH-47 (heavy lift). It’s up to the needs of the military.

The US Army actually has a very organized route for enlisted soldiers to apply for helicopter pilot seats.
    Best of luck

I practiced VOR/OBS navigation and ILS/glide-scope landings with an MS Boeing-747-400! I knife edged it between the WTC north and south towers, flew under some bridges too, I never could have imagined someone really flying into the towers on purpose.

The wold has become an ugly place…
