Brothers you know what really grinds my gears is when I pay for a game I expect to get a full fledged game but now we have microtransactions. I have been seeing more and more games come out with microtransactions that make you pay to unlock game features, levels, or content that makes a difference in the game. I am not talking about some new character skin or funny hat for your character but actually items that give you an edge in the game. F~~~en p~~~es me off I have to spend more money now on a game just to be competitive with others. I refuse to do it now and if a game has microtransactions that give you an edge I won’t bother buying the game.

Pay to win is what I call it. World of Warcraft is a perfect example of this decline. It was once a great game, and is still good, but fell down the ladder many rungs with the ability to pay to level up and pay cash for in game gold and items.

Same old story, whatever makes money is what they go with, often times ruining once great games…

This is why I only play on private servers now. No corporate bulls~~~, just guys who love the game the way it used to be.

I have also noticed when games switch to pay to win they are already in a steady decline of subscriber numbers and are trying to stop the bleeding. I have played EVE online for almost a decade now and noticed that with the incorporation of what they call PLEX you can buy it for real money and sell it in EVE for isk (eve money) to gain better gear etc. Such a shame

I hear that Nostalrius, a private WOW server that was in France that Blizz shut down because it got too big may come back and host from Russia if Blizz does not announce legacy servers at Blizzcon in a few days or so. If they do, that is where I will be playing. And for free…

It would be smart for these companies to listen to their players as they are the ones that are paying the companies pay cheques.

It happens because people need money, just because of that.
And people with lack of talent, need money too.
They try to monetise everything everywhere, just take a look in the internet, ADS EVERYWHERE, pages with 8 ads, that something that cannot be acceptable.

They will force you to buy anything, there is no ‘free’ game out there except those open source games.
Use your voice against them, don’t play the game, complain about the game, find another thing to play.

The people who are paying these companies’ paychecks are the pay-to-players now. Face it, the entire thing was a setup.

A company invests invest a ton of time, money and effort to launch and maintain a game where competition and success born of merit attract the hard core gamer community. True gamers become deeply attached to the game and help it to develop a powerful reputation for excellence. Then the company shifts its focus and broadens it’s appeal to the masses of more casual gamers by giving them the ability to pay for success rather than having to earn it. The hard core gamers will p~~~ and moan but they are too attached to simply move on and now the profits are driven by the cheaters whose credibility is sustained by the meritous.

You want to send a message to these game devlopers? Stop playing any game that allows players to buy achievement. When you leave, you take away from the them illusion that their achievements have meaning and the system collapses.

Are you firm enough in your beliefs to be willing to stop playing World of Warcraft, Eve and all games of this type entirely? If no, then you continue to be the keystone upon which this entire arch of bulls~~~ depends and you have no place complaining about it.

Yep, many have done just this. I think WOW has gone from a peak of 12 million subscribers to under 4 million or something, I think they stopped reporting awhile back how many subscribers they have…

I, and hundreds of thousands of others worldwide play on private servers. Another thing to note- On private servers there is far less censorship. It is like the wild west, I learn so much talking to people from around the world about what is going on it is insane… Retail servers are run a bit more Nazi like in regards to what you can get away with saying. Private servers host for people from around the world on one server. Retail divides by regions which keeps people in the dark socially in regards to global perspectives.

Depending on what the Corporate “You think you do, but you don’t” f~~~tards do in the next week or so may be game changing. Russia will possibly be the new host for Nostalrius, and therefore will be untouchable. Oppression always leads to exodus.

Yeah, I played WOW alot in the early days, but could feel the addiction/grind/subscrription mechanics was just clever marketing.

I tapped out before the 1st of predictably many expansions released.

Was fun to be playing a sucuesssful MMO at the time, and I could see the potential of multiplayer gaming, but I had had enough of the cash grab model, and grinding.

Have avoided online gaming since then with the exception of diving in and then out of Guild Wars 2 to test the waters again.

Now I only play single player games, and I guess Im waiting for a better MMO.

Vote with your wallet, bro. Don’t buy the game nor the transactions. The companies don’t care if you hate it or get p~~~ed off, they already have your money. They’re trying to nickel and dime us. It’s bulls~~~. But then again, there are plenty of sheeple that buy into it. Be mad at those dumb f~~~s too.

Yeah. Gaming isn’t what it used to be 15 years ago. Back then when you bought a game, you could expect to get a complete game, with no showstopper bugs, free addons and updates from the developers and 3rd party mod support. Now all that is mostly relegated to the past.

    Those were truly great times.

Also watch out for the Freemium/Free to play stuff. Rip off too. Did that with World of Warships, never again. They proved my suspicions about that to be correct.

Oh man I hear yeah on that, I run several anti ad applications on chrome and you should see all the stuff it filters out when I go to YouTube or Facebook, it’s nuts!

Yeah most of the games now are junk, just look at all the crap that is on Steam these days. I miss the good old days of Doom and Quake.
