    The Kinks:

    “State Of Confusion” (1983)

    Woke up in a panic,
    Like somebody fired a gun
I wish I could be dreaming,
    But the nightmare’s just begun.
    There’s flooding in the basement,
    There’s water all around.
    There’s woodworm in the attic
And the ceiling just fell down.
    I’m in a state (state)
    Of confusion (whooooh).
    I’m in a state (state)
    Of confusion (whooooh).

    All the dirty dishes
Are still in the kitchen sink.
    The tumble dryer’s broken,
Now the telly’s on the blink.
    My girlfriend’s packed her bags
And moved out to another town.
    She couldn’t stand the boredom
    When the video broke down.
Don’t know why I feel so bad.
Is it the weather, or am I going mad?
Don’t know why I feel this way.
    I don’t know whether I’m coming or I’m going,
Can’t cover up ’cause it’s obviously showing.
    It’s a state (state)
    Of confusion (whooooh).
    We’re in a state (state)
    Of confusion (whooooh).
    I don’t know whether I’m coming or I’m going.

Should feel happy, should feel glad.
I’m alive and it can’t be bad,
But back on planet Earth they shatter the illusion,
The world’s going ’round in a state of confusion.

    Standing on an island
In the middle of the road.
    Traffic either side of me,
    Which way will I go?
    I should’ve stayed at home,
I should have never come outside.
Now I wish I never tried
    To cross the other side.
    I’m in a state (state)
    State of confusion (whooooh).
    It’s a state (state)
    Of confusion (whooooh).

Lyin’ awake in a cold, cold sweat,
Am I overdrawn, am I going in debt?
It gets worse, the older that you get.
No escape from the state of confusion I’m in.
    State of confusion I’m in.
    Whooooh

    1980’s industrial depression soundtrack.

Still sounds real today, doesn’t it?

Can’t access it from Germany but I know every second of it.

The Beatles had so much life-changing red pill music that it would take epic threads to explain it all.

They were my soundtrack of life since 1975. At age 8 to 9, I actively started listening to music. I bought most of their albums 4 times by now…

And as a child, singing along with these 4 guys from Liverpool gave me such a good English language pronunciation that my first English teacher “fell out of the clouds” on how fast I picked up the meaning of the words and how well and accent free I spoke.

    The Kinks:

they had a comeback in 1989:

    Played on AOR stations…

And I shook our church tower with it. Back then I only had 2 x 200 Watt sine power, but speakers with 99dB/m efficiency…

Had to put it on HiFi Videotape, the sound would make the record skip.

I could have written that one.

    “How Do I Get Close”

Living in a world where the flesh is cheap.
Body touches body but it’s only skin deep.
I can hold you in my arms every time that you weep
But we’ve lost that emotional flow.
Living on a planet full of emptiness
With maximum exposure full of sleaziness
But the make up on your face can’t disguise loneliness

Where designer feelings are in vogue, what do they know?

Darlin’ Darlin’ how do I get close to you when I’m
Trying, trying my heart is reaching out to you
How do I get close to you?
    In this world without feeling,
    Where words have no meaning,
    If I were lying, lying,
I’d have more chance of reaching you but I’m,
Crying, crying, but I can’t get my message through,

How do I get close to you?

Get close to the sinners trying hard to repent
Get close to the homeless wasters and the innocent
Get close to the souls ignored and forgotten by the
    Establishment.

People get afraid to touch in case it rubs off on them
Gotta get close, yeah people gotta stay close, close.
    People gotta stay close.

Though we seem together, it’s breaking my heart.
This world is full of barriers that keep us apart.
Keep it superficial before feelings can start
In a world that’s all glitter and glow, what do they know?

Darlin’, darlin’, I can’t communicate to you without
Crying, crying, I can’t get a message through
How do I get close to you?

    How can I get close?
    How can I get close?
Darlin’, darlin’, how do I get close to you when you’re
Surviving surviving in a world that’s making us confused
Guess I’m afraid of losing you.
    In this world without feeling.

    Somehow we gotta stay close.

In 1978, this one by the KINKS came out.

And it described me in some way.

It was hardly ever played on German radio except for the times I requested it.

The TDK SA-90 cassette, was later worn to hell… the ones with the white paper labels…

    “A Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy”

Hello you, hello me, hello people we used to be
Isn’t it strange, we never changed
We’ve been through it all yet we’re still the same
And I know it’s a miracle we still go, and for all we know
We might still have a way to go

Hello me, hello you, you say you want out
Want to start anew, throw in your hand
Break up the band, start a new life, be a new man
But for all we know, we might still have a way to go
Before you go, there’s something you ought to know

There’s a guy in my block, he lives for rock
He plays records day and night
And when he feels down he puts some rock ‘n’ roll on
And it makes him feel alright
And when he feels the world is closing in
He turns his stereo way up high

He just spends his life living in a rock ‘n’ roll fantasy
He just spends his life living on the edge of reality
He just spends his life in a rock ‘n’ roll fantasy
He just spends his life living in a rock ‘n’ roll fantasy
He just spends his life living on the edge of reality
He just spends his life in a rock ‘n’ roll fantasy
He just spends his life living in a rock ‘n’ roll fantasy

Look at me, look at you
You say we’ve got nothing left to prove
The King is dead, rock is done
You might be through but I’ve just begun
    I don’t know, I feel free and I won’t let go
Before you go, there’s something you ought to know

Dan is a fan and he lives for our music
It’s the only thing that gets him by
He’s watched us grow and he’s seen all our shows
He’s seen us low and he’s seen us high
Oh, but you and me keep thinking
That the world’s just passing us by

Don’t want to spend my life living in a rock ‘n’ roll fantasy
Don’t want to spend my life living on the edge of reality
Don’t want to waste my life hiding away anymore
Don’t want to spend my life living in a rock ‘n’ roll fantasy

    @gargamel
I hear you there. Listening and singing Beatles tunes (among others) as a kid helped me to learn English when we immigrated from Quebec to Canada in 1969.
Speaking only French (Canadian) and Cree was not generally popular anywhere then 🙂

The lyrics to Norwegian Wood never sounded like a love song to me, more of a peeling away of the veneer of how temporary “love” and relationships really are.

“Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)”

    I once had a girl
    Or should I say
    She once had me

    She showed me her room
    Isn’t it good
    Norwegian wood

    She asked me to stay
And she told me to sit anywhere
    So I looked around
    And I noticed there wasn’t a chair

    I sat on a rug
    Biding my time
    Drinking her wine

    We talked until two
    And then she said
    “It’s time for bed”

She told me she worked in the morning
    And started to laugh
    I told her I didn’t
And crawled off to sleep in the bath

    And when I awoke
    I was alone
    This bird had flown

    So I lit a fire
    Isn’t it good
    Norwegian wood

As an aside, every time I hear their song “In My life” I picture myself alone walking and having “fun” in the woods while I sing along.
The song reminds me of a love of freedom, not another person.

There was a time in my life when I gave a fuck. Now you have to pay ME for it

And there was one more Band I “got married to” for life:

    Boston:

    http://www.azlyrics.com/b/boston.html

    “Don’t Look Back”

    Don’t look back
    A new day is breakin’
It’s been too long since I felt this way
    I don’t mind where I get taken
    The road is callin’

    Today is the day

    I can see
It took so long just to realize
    I’m much too strong
    Not to compromise
Now I see what I am is holding me down
I’ll turn it around (Oh, yes I will)

I finally see the dawn arrivin’
I see beyond the road I’m drivin’

It’s a bright horizon and I’m awake now
Oh I see myself in a brand new way
    The sun is shinin’
    The clouds are breakin’
‘Cause I can’t lose now, there’s no game to play

    I can tell
There’s no more time left to criticize
I’ve seen what I could not recognize
Everything in my life was leading me on
But I can be strong (Oh, yes I can)

I finally see the dawn arrivin’
I see beyond the road I’m drivin’
Far away and left behind (left behind)

    Oh, the sun is shinin’
    And I’m on that road

    Don’t look back
    A new day is breakin’
It’s been too long since I felt this way
    I don’t mind where I get taken
    The road is callin’
    Today is the day

    I can see
It took so long just to realize
    I’m much too strong
    Not to compromise
Now I see what I am is holding me down
I’ll turn it around (Oh, yes I will)

I finally see the dawn arrivin’
I see beyond the road I’m drivin’
    Far away and left behind

    Don’t look back
    Don’t look back
    Don’t look back
    Don’t look back

    “A Man I’ll Never Be”

If I said what’s on my mind
    You’d turn and walk away
Disappearing way back in your dreams
It’s so hard to be unkind
    So easy just to say
That everything is just the way it seems

    You look up at me
And somewhere in your mind you see
    A man I’ll never be

If only I could find a way
I’d feel like I’m the man you believe I am
And it gets harder every day for me
To hide behind this dream you see
    A man I’ll never be

    I can’t get any stronger
    I can’t climb any higher
You’ll never know just how hard I’ve tried
    Cry a little longer
    And hold a little tighter
    Emotions can’t be satisfied

    You look up at me
And somewhere in your mind you see
    A man I’ll never be

If only I could find a way
I’d feel like I’m the man you believe I am
And it gets harder every day for me
To hide behind this dream you see
    A man I’ll never be

I think my neighbors will recognize this one…

    “Foreplay / Long Time”

It’s been such a long time
I think I should be goin’, yeah
And time doesn’t wait for me, it keeps on rollin’
Sail on, on a distant highway
I’ve got to keep on chasin’ a dream
I’ve gotta be on my way

Wish there was something I could say

Well I’m takin’ my time, I’m just movin’ on
You’ll forget about me after I’ve been gone
And I take what I find, I don’t want no more
It’s just outside of your front door

It’s been such a long time. It’s been such a long time

Well I get so lonely when I am without you
But in my mind, deep in my mind
    I can’t forget about you
Good times, and faces that remind me
I’m tryin’ to forget your name and leave it all behind me
You’re comin’ back to find me

Well I’m takin’ my time, I’m just movin’ on
You’ll forget about me after I’ve been gone
And I take what I find, I don’t want no more
It’s just outside of your front door

It’s been such a long time. It’s been such a long time

Yeah. It’s been such a long time, I think I should be goin’, yeah
And time doesn’t wait for me, it keeps on rollin’
There’s a long road, I’ve gotta stay in time with
I’ve got to keep on chasin’ that dream, though I may never find it
    I’m always just behind it

Well I’m takin’ my time, I’m just movin’ along
Takin’ my time, just movin’ along
Takin’ my time, takin’ my time…

I guess everybody knows that one…

    “More Than A Feeling”

I looked out this morning and the sun was gone
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away

It’s more than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
‘Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin’ away

So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on
As clear as the sun in the summer sky

It’s more than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
‘Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin’ away

When I’m tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away
    She slipped away

It’s more than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
‘Till I see Marianne walk away

And he is just one red pill away from us…

MGTOW education also came from songs like these explaining unsolvable issues and how they can f~~~ up the “delusional man” still dreaming of love.

In 1986, there was no “red pill” library on the internet…

“Can’tcha Say (You Believe In Me)”

Can’tcha say you believe in me?
Can’tcha see what you mean to me?

    Everyday I think of you,
    You’re on my mind.
    Some things in the past
    Are better left behind.

Every night I dream of you,
The images as clear as day.

Can’tcha say you believe in me?
Can’tcha say you believe in me?
You know that where there’s a will there’s a way.
Can’tcha say you believe in me?
Can’t you see what it means to me?
    Don’t leave me alone tonight,
    ‘Cause I still love you.

    We’ve had our time apart
And I knew right from the start
    I could never change
The way I feel about you baby.
We can sit here all night long
And separate the right from the wrong
    But love won’t wait.

Can’tcha say you believe in me?
Can’tcha say you believe in me?
You know that where there’s a will there’s a way.
Can’tcha say you believe in me?
Can’t you see what it means to me?
    Don’t leave me alone tonight,
    ‘Cause I still love you.

Ooohh, still in love with you
You know I need you baby, to stand by me.
Can’t you see I need you, baby.
Oooh, I’m still in love with you.

Can’tcha say you believe in me?
Can’tcha say you believe in me?
You know that where there’s a will there’s a way.
Can’tcha say you believe in me?
Can’t you see what you means to me?
    Don’t leave me alone tonight,
    ‘Cause I still love you.

    I love you

As an aside, every time I hear their song “In My life” I picture myself alone walking and having “fun” in the woods while I sing along.
The song reminds me of a love of freedom, not another person.

That lady friendzoned the poor guy but he took it with grace. And he saw the positive side of it, still be able to enjoy life “Isn’t it good Norwegian Wood” after he got left by said woman…

I can see him sitting there…

All of this music symbolized freedom and that there is always a way left to go.

Speaking only French (Canadian) and Cree was not generally popular anywhere then

And I wish I could speak French as good as you can. Unfortunately we had a very vile feminist c~~~ as our French teacher. And that made me hate these lessons. But years later I listened to a lot of French radio with my killer FM antenna and later on satellite.

Since 2008 the “Canadian Forces Network” became my favorite radio station. And there I had French “CBC news” right in between the 70’s Casey Kasem shows…

In 2014 they signed off for good and my super PLL LNB I bought specifically for their broadcast feed is now a piece of expensive metal to look at and cry tears over this fantastic radio program.

I can understand French in writing and when I hear it – but speaking it, I fall into a hole…

Sadly, thanks – feminist c~~~ teacher, her initials were K.B. – the class called her “the witch”.
I called her “Kotz-Brocken” (Puke-Block/Puke-Brick) like her initials. In the 80’s, we had these “Atomic power, no thanks” stickers. And I modified it to “K.B. – no thanks!”
And wherever I sat, there was “K.B. – No thanks!” written on the table. With “permanent marker ink”, paint thinner required to remove it… And they tried…

“Gargamel, the witch is coming”… tok, tok, tok, tok…the witch in high-heels.
