    Hello brothers,

I was wondering if there were any here who have built garage gyms at their house at all. I like talking about them to other people and have built up a pretty awesome one at my house.

The stuff I purchased is all commercial quality equipment so it’ll definitely last longer than I will and is what I would like to consider, “a gladiator-style gym like you’d see in Spartacus” There isn’t a lot of bells and whistles at my gym but just the tools needed to get me stronger.

The equipment I purchased is: a rogue fitness power rack, 3 rogue fitness bars (1 power bar and 2 multipurpose), horse stall mats covering 3/4 of the entire 2 car garage, a power block dumbbell set ranging from 5lbs to 90lbs, and 1000lbs of iron just to name a few of the most important things.

I also have an adjustable bench (I like doing incline work)and a regular bench, a deadlift platform made by myself (it’s really just some 4 x 6 plywood with an additional horse-stall mat on top), and an assortment of bands and accessories so I have some variety.

Finally, I just purchased a Glute-ham developer not that long ago as that has many purposes for those who know what those are.

My thoughts when creating this was that I wanted my gym to be barbell and dumbbell focused, every station or piece of equipment would be multipurpose. (There’s no need for a preacher curl machine taking up precious real estate), and no equipment that has many moving parts (cable machines) as those need repairs quite often.

Anyways, I would love to know if others have also made a kickass gym out in their garages also. Please let me know so we could share ideas.

I have Ironman weights that are “clickable”. They’ll go up to 50 lbs per dumbell. They were in the house I rented when I moved in. I’ve adopted them.

I use them for situps, like someone sitting on you feet. I curl my toes around where you would hold the weights.

Gyms are awesome. Great place to bond with fellas looking to improve themselves. Conversations will come to you with a private gym.

That’s cool that you found some weights chilling at your house. I do like going to commercial gyms also and that is where I have spent the majority of my training years. I’ll still go to commercial gyms time and time again for the extra motivation of others training hard and for the variety of equipment. I do like using the leg press machine quite a bit. Both garage gyms and commercial gyms have their advantages and disadvantages.

Closest I ever came to building a home gym is an elliptical for cardio and a top of the line bowflex for resistance training.

I prefer to go to the gym, if I have to go through the effort of going somewhere to work out then i’m going to work out. Plus there’s more variety there and workout pals, it works for me at this stage. But when I was younger the home gym worked also, just requires more personal discipline to use a home gym on a regular basis i think.

Yeah I understand where you are coming from. I have my roots in a commercial gym and I agree that the people there can help motivate you.

I too also like the variety of equipment. That is one of the drawbacks of having a garage gym. If you don’t have the space or money, you need to focus on just basic equipment and you can sometimes feel you’ve lost out on some of the more enjoyable pieces of equipment at the gym. I myself love a good leg extension and leg curl machine. I also love lat-pulldown machines as much as the next guy.
