In my country/society (Canada) kids belong to the woman and the big daddy state. You won’t believe how generous the federal government is to single mothers in terms of child benefits, welfare and subsidized housing.

Two parent households get significantly less child benefits due to higher “household income”.

Various studies in the UK put the cost of raising a child in the range of £200-250,000. that’s from birth to age 21, and increases significantly if the child is privately or worse boarding schooled.

The lion’s share of that would be borne by the man while the woman more often than not plays homemaker, and when (in the 90% of marriages in 10 years) she decides to divorce him the child becomes hers along with the house and a majority of his income and assets.

This. Because I procreated with my now Ex-wife, she gets to manipulate me, my paycheck, my time and my offspring at her leisure. The federal and state governments ensure that the whip is cracked LOUDLY should I not jump high enough for princess cupcake.

Was in a long term relationship and she wanted kids. She kept on about it. Luckily she wasn’t very smart and would also yell me a lot, generally be abusive and grind me down. All I kept thinking was “Sure, we have a kid, then you dump me and I never see the kid plus pay for it till they are 18”.

You are right, but its not just the judges, “family lawyers” aka divorce lawyers are very unethical. The more a woman wins in a divorce, the more they can receive in commission and legal fees.

I would have enjoyed being a father if it was on my terms when I was younger, but I saw what my Dad went through in order to have children. I once asked my Dad in his last few days if he regreted marriage and he paused and said if it wasn’t for my children I would never have married. My Dad gave me so many red pills during his last few days, it was the greatest gift he ever gave me among many others.

I got two and I buy almost everything.
I have them half the time.

The only upside is my ex will have them if I need to do something.

I can’t change what’s done but if I knew she was gonna pull the plug 6 months after our second child was born I would never have got involved.

When we separated she came to me one day and said a divorce lawyer she had been to see defaulted straight away to saying ‘we will restrict his access to the kids to one evening and one weekend afternoon per fortnight’.
Fair play to my ex she had to shut down the divorce lawyer straight away.

Mercifully we left the courts out of it.
