A majority of Americans are wary of being alone with members of the opposite sex. For women, they are afraid of being harassed. For men, they are afraid of being falsely accused of harassing a woman.

For women you have to worry about being sexual harassed. For men you have to worry about being sexually harassed by a boss (not as often but it does happen), having someone that works FOR you and wants to use sex to get ahead, and false accusations just for cash and prizes.

That’s one thing for a woman to worry about and three for a man. Now, the odds may be equal when push comes to shove, but men still have plenty to worry about. It’s not a surprise that men and women are wary of being alone with the opposite sex. Also, when you go out with a man and have dinner, you have a conversation with another man. When you go out to dinner with a woman, you eat next to someone staring at their phone.

Despite the odds being even, men more often than not have much more to lose.

Years ago I had a talk with a friend of mine who works for a big German airline and has frequent business trips to the USA. And she told me that in American Companies it has become a ritual if there is just one women or “only women” in an elevator, a man has to pass it by and wait for the next one.

That was around 2007. She also told me that many foreign companies (non U.S.) hold extra meetings for their employees and make them sign agreements on these special “U.S. rules” before they get transferred.

Just to protect their employees from the toxicity in American Workplaces.

That is sick.

In Germany it is not quite as sick yet.

I don’t want to know how much loss of efficiency this all by itself has already cost. A man has to wait a quarter of an hour (!) for the “4th elevator” to come around just to reach his workplace.

No wonder why men drop out of the workplace.
