OK guys, so I’m 21 years old. Like my peers, I was funneled into college after high school. I had a summer job through AmeriCorps for 2 years in a reading/nutrition program for kids in poverty.
In my sophomore year, I got a job on campus as a janitor in the student union. That’s the only job I could get without Federal Aid work study.
Last summer, I decided to take time off college. I moved home and started working in a restaurant. Job was decent but the women always created drama, and this mangina dishwasher was always f~~~ing with my flow and criticizing me. I quit that job and started going to community college for IT
I’m still looking for employment this summer. I never had trouble finding work before, but things aren’t going well now. Online applications are time consuming and I’ve never got a job offer from one. Pounding the pavement lets you make a first impression, but most people are busy at work and don’t want to deal with you.I’m not trying to make this a rant, but maybe others experience something similar or have advice for someone trying to get on their feet?
Check with a temp agency and headhunter.

Expect about 2-3 phone calls per 100 online applications if you are new to the labor force. About 1 interview per 3-5 phone calls and about 1 offer per 3 interviews. So, on average 1 job offer per 100-150 online applications.
When you have sent more than 150 online applications (Resume and Cover letter) you can start worrying. Until then, keep applying. You should know that searching for work should be your FULL TIME job. You should spend at least 8 hours per day looking for and applying for jobs. If you are not doing that you are not serious about finding a job.
A job is not something someone owes you. It is something you have to go get, and getting something you want always takes work. Otherwise you will always be at the mercy of the nanny-state.The answer is NO. “I could but I won’t”. Memini murum!
Here’s what I used to do, I called headhunting companies, tell them what I am looking for and let them do the job for me. In the mean time, I spend my time on build applications that I can showcase the company in case they decide to call me in. I have never failed a single interview using this method, one thing to keep in mind is that companies don’t care what you know, what education you’ve got, but what you can do and have done.
Especially in IT, if you haven’t built anything in your sparetime that you can show people, that means you either don’t have the necessary skills or you don’t have enough interest in that field.
Job Agency.
Don’t be stingy about the opportunities you get either. Even if it means working as a dishwasher in a restaurant. It’s still better than nothing.
Dude, I started working at age 12.
Started with a mower. Added hedge clippers, then into porch painting.I was my own boss early on.
Start a cash only handyman gig.
The work flows.Get 1,000 fliers made up. Come up with your service offerings.
The first gig was weeding. Start with work gloves.
Do a good job. No bitching and score more work.
Get business cards.
Get a clipboard and create an estimate sheet. You keep the top half of the paper for call backs.
Because of fb snd other s~~~, things are not getting done.
It is easier today to get started.
Fuvk me… all weekrn long, dawn to dusk I was busy.
Message me for tips.

*Whining* Dude, but that’s hard work! */Whining*
People are lazy as s~~~ nowadays. All they want to do is sit around in their underwear spending every waking moment on Facebook or playing games.
The secret to success is to work hard, and put your efforts into the RIGHT thing. Starting your own business is one of those right things.
As a business owner myself, I know that hard work makes success. But you’ve got to be willing to do the work and make sacrifices. Don’t dick around, blow money, play games, etc. Make your job your life.
Fortunately only 1% of people will actually take this advice to heart. It sure makes entrepreneurs like ourselves a whole lot richer. If you want to be lazy, fine. But don’t expect for s~~~ to be handed to you on a silver platter. It doesn’t work that way.

If I could help you with getting a job, I would, but I don’t know what it takes anymore.
What I can tell you is this; when you have to apply online and if you have to take that horrible personality questionnaire, tell my advice: LIE. If you answer the questions based on your true personality or intensions, your application will be worth nothing. If you answer the questions based on what they want to hear, then you have a better chance of getting a call back. I hate those Unicru or Kronos tests like it’s no one’s business, because they kept me for a long time from getting responses!
And when it comes to preparing for interviews, I suggest going to Glassdoor.com, where they have the interview questions of each major corporation, and they tell you if the applicant reviewer got the job or not.
