Great video.  I’m a Reason subscriber and this is an anomaly, in that most Libertarians I’ve known advocate privatization of marriage.  Privatization allows for different forms of marriage without State sanction (e.g., straight marriage, ‘strong’ or covenant marriage, gay marriage, polygamy, etc).  This is reflected in the comments for and against the article’s thesis.

I was astounded this was published in Reason because it is anathema to basic libertarian philosophy 101 of personal freedom and the editors should be called out on that.

If you look at the Cato Institute’s position on marriage (David Boaz) you’ll find a very different viewpoint than this columnist’s position.
