This hashtag is trending on Twitter: #LatinaEqualPay
A lot of Twitter users are stating that American Latinas make 54 cents for every dollar white men make at their jobs. They fail to state any other facts such as:
1. A lot of Latinas have children. That means they are less likely to work overtime (or even a full eight hour shift) because they have to take care of their children.
2. Men generally don’t babysit. They are usually the primary wage earners of an American household. Therefore, they can work long hours without leaving work early to pick up their kids from school if it’s a half day or take care of them when they get sick.
3. Many Latin American immigrants don’t speak English, can’t read English words, or have a limited English vocabulary. This limits their job opportunities.
4. Many Latin Americans lack a college degree. When it comes to getting a bachelor’s degree: Asian Americans have the highest percentage, followed by white Americans, black Americans, and Latin Americans. So the solution to the 54 cent/one dollar wage gap seems obvious to me: Latin Americans should encourage their daughters to make good grades and go to college if they think they deserve to make as much money as the average white man.
5. Men are more likely to take on dangerous jobs such as: construction, commercial fishing, fixing power lines, cutting down trees, fighting terrorists in Afghanistan, etc. If Latinas are willing to work on oil derricks or dig holes with a bulldozer, they can fill that wage gap.
The way they present their case about Latin American women’s wages seems to put the blame on white American men or business owners. If it’s any consolation to them: many white American men, with just a high school diploma, have lost their factory jobs and are struggling to survive with low wage jobs. You earn what your employers think you deserve. If your skills are better than average, then your employers know that you are not easily replaceable—therefore, you can negotiate a higher wage. The politicians and college-educated political activists are well aware of this, but they’ll use this hashtag to get people riled up and gain more support for their social/political agendas.

They earn less for many valid reasons.
Those that earn more, pay more taxes. These people pay no taxes.
Take the taxes and tax breaks into consideration.
Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.
F~~~ them.
No f~~~s given.
Take the taxes and tax breaks into consideration.
Exactly. Many poor Americans get tax breaks because they have kids and some get food stamps, section 8 vouchers, and free health care to make up for what they lack. As you stated, many Americans with higher incomes are paying taxes for those social services in addition to their own bills.
The low income problem isn’t just about latinas, a wide range of races are struggling with minimum wage jobs because American factories are shutting down, the cost of a college education is outrageous, and it’s a challenge to get enough work experience to advance to higher paying positions. There’s about 40 million Americans that really don’t earn enough money for a decent standard of living. They also know what it’s like to earn 54 cents, on average, for every $1 white men earn—and some of them are white men!
