Gentlemen, Kenobi recently purchased an egg incubator with fan and auto-turner. It’s been fired up for four days now with two different chicken breeds and one breed of turkey eggs contained within.
Here are my chickens and they are secluded by breed to pen as to not have hybrids.
This breed is my favourite for laying but the prior for eating:
Here are my Hen and Tom turkey breed. I only have a single pair, but two turkey eggs currently incubating. She so far lays one about every 2.5 days which is fine with me. Though I am not sure if my Tom turkey has his “job” quite figured out yet so they may not be fertilized.
Chicken eggs hatch after 21 days while turkeys tend to hatch after 28. I’m shooting lowball and expecting a 30% hatch rate which will be fine with me.
Eggs here sell for $2 a dozen while one chick will fetch that easily. Turkey chicks start at $8 and up.
Any member that has this as a hobby, etc, or just out of curiosity please feel free to chime in!!!

My parents kept chickens when i was a kid . Also a horse called dillenger . First horse i rode at five .
On the property wich was taken by a collapsed finnancial industry .
The chickens were double fenced in . With a gap between the two .
Chickens were going missing . But there was no sign of digging under .
About two hundred meters from the hens was thick bush .
Sometimes dillenger would just spook .
I remember my mother and sister running out of the bush screaming . Wasnt a bigfoot they described and both kept the same story as i can remember . Even after my mum died i rememberd asking her once when i was young .
There was a small stream that run threw into the scrub .
The area has a rich history dating back to families way back to the first settlers of the area .
Another associate of mine back when i was in my twenties had chickens up in the hills . Chickens went missing . He had dogs he placed near the hens at night . They would go off . Nothing .
A near by friend of his had a similar problem .
(Wtf . My other c~~~ sister just rang ) Another topic comming . C~~~ of a thing .)
He told my friend of a giant snake .
20 years on .
I use to go exploring alot .
Had the kids with me back then . I use to take my video camera so one of my kids told me recently that i filmed it when we found it on a half dirt track that only two small cars wide with a bit of bitchumen in the middle .
Its head i could not see as i stood around 10 meters away and kept the kids in the car . Its tail went into the bushes on the other side .
There was sunlight comming threw the trees .
Snakes cant hear . I thought the car running and me walking near it would make it move .
I remember moving closer to it when it moved and its tail slipped into the jungle .
Got lots of s~~~ everywhere at the moment . This would be golden to find if i did film it . I am sure i didnt . I cant go threw looking for s~~~ it f~~~s with me .

There is a story . Caught a young c~~~ with a chickling hoping for a hawk to grab the c~~~ . I grabbed it . Brought it home years ago and called it chicka . Lol .
Cool as f~~~ . Chicka was above me as well on the exes list .
The cat was cool with chicka . Puss was innocent . I know .
Chicka was a traitor as he took to my ex . But i still loved him . My ex wanted to bin him as he layed lifeless .
I gave him a burial with ceremonies with the kids . Shoe box and two paddle pop sticks stuck together with blue tack .

Shoe box funeral ( i wont even get that ) I will die before the make beleave debt i owe from years ago after my kids were taken will be paid . 10 bucks a fortnight till i am like 70 or some s~~~ lol . Thats all there getting . They can all go get f~~~ed . No letters no phone number on this r2 unit . F~~~ them all . Unopened letters can be done when i am gone .
I was sure it was a nieghbor hood cat that did the hit on chicka after dumb c~~~ ex left him in the yard .
Cat was above me too . But he had his nuts cut off . He was on my side . He never left my side . Didnt even know about him getting his b~~~~ removed .
Ex even abandoned him somewhere . I went looking for him .
An old nieghbor said that someone took him because they ended up feeding him .
Asked the lady/aussie man woman a few weeks ago she denied having him . I know her and her mangina along with her brewd took him in and as long as he is happy . The woman has her mangina well trained and busy . Working cooking mowing the usual thing .
I bet he hates the mangina .
F~~~ i miss him . A ginger tabby . Layed on my chest from been a kitten . Would even wait for me to pull up in the car .

Thank you Zerenity. My coop and run are fairly secured, a poultry prison for the most part. However, when I go in sometimes my farm cats follow me in but they actually get along with the chickens.
This past Summer I let the roosters free range and the cats would actually play with them in a kind way which I found rather odd. Lost a few due to my canines but s~~~ happens. The dogs keep the raccoons and coyotes at bay also which is good.
Oddly Tower, I thought Turkens were half turkey/chicken. I could so handle roasting a 15 pound chicken breast on a spit if you know what I mean!

This is a great post and a wonderful example of an easy entry into “prepper land”. Have fresh eggs, raise chickens when you want to and sell the extra (eggs or chicken) to those who choose, or are incapable of raising them themselves.

I tried to raise turkeys. Beltsville small white. Thought I might have a market for a smoked turkey in the 8 pound range. One by one each and every one of them would separate from the flock and in a day would be dead. Exam made post death I could not find any reason, except the crop being empty from not eating. Killed the last 3 just so I would not have a total loss. Good luck with your turkeys.

Kenobi, I wish I had land for a few chickens, how much trouble is the whole operation? Does it take much time to deal with?
When they are chicks there is moderate involvement, but once they are grown it’s pretty menial. It’s a good hobby to have imo and minus the cost of feed it’s pretty much free food!
Actually, I know a guy that has a portable coop on wheels where he leaves it for several days letting the chickens fertilize his lawn and moves it. Makes for a very nice lawn!
