Hadn’t i known that he was from the roman age i could have thought he was an average social conservative of TODAY describing what’s going on in Europe and US and in the westenr world as a whole. He attacks senators who go working dressed like women, who marry other men etc…

BUT the most frightening part is the most famous of the Satires, the Satire VI, also known with the title of
“Contra mulieres” (“Against women”) where he describes how women attitude changed cause of the lack of control, emancipation, and absence of wars. If in the other Satires he sounds like a social conservative, in THIS satire he litterally could have come out of this forum. The similarity between then and now in terms of marriage, divorce, cuckolding, alimony, hypergamy and double standards are ASTOUNDING. It’s like those “Matronae” just lacked Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr to be exactly the same s~~~1qweq of nowadays women

I just started laughing alone while reading some parts of this masterpiece because it really feels like he was some sort of MGTOW guy trapped back in time XD

So they used to do the full Angelina Jolie “here I got me some spare children! It’s the rich thing to do”??? You know, whenever I hear the ‘wrong side of history’ argument I think of the Roman Empire embracing incest and other perversions before collapsing, and I think, “maybe history is due for a correction. Any barbarians at the gates?” (Of course in Europe they’re inside the gates, but anyway…) It would be worthwhile to start considering the specific similarities between their decline and ours – must read Gibbon one day.
