Well men, you will be amongst the first to receive the news I got.

At the NASA job, after a short interview and a typing/Excel test, they hired me right on the spot! They said they were so impressed with my skills and my test results that they needed someone to start with them ASAP.

I’m going to start with them June 6th. I’ll be inputting data from old parts received from other NASA contractors. It could include anything from old CRT TVs and computers to scuba diving gear (astronaut training supplies) all the way to astronaut suit gear! Pretty cool.

This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I will finally be able to live comfortably.

I’m currently working on my resignation letter as we speak.

‘Went Camping’ is right, anything you can do to improve inventory management could be a stepping stone into even higher pay and an IT career — barcoding, RF tags, etc. Even automating forms in Excel with VBA. MS Access does make a great front end IMHO.

I actually did take (and pass with an A) some classes on how to do this very thing. It’s what got me into my university job. But now that I’ve utilized those skills I can improve into something better. The pay on this new job is literally a $10k/year increase. For me as a single guy living on my own in an all-bills paid apartment, that’s PHENOMENAL.

Absolutely. Thankfully the office looks like it’s mostly guys. There are women there, but they’re not near my age range and aren’t even the slightest bit tempting, LOL 😛

Congratulations!! One small piece of advice. When you leave your job, don’t burn the place down. It’s not your job to point out what a f~~~ed up place it is. Thanks for the opportunity, appreciate everything you did for me, couldn’t pass up a great career advancement opportunity like this.

Look at it this way. It DID give you opportunity to hone your skills, and it showed you the type of place you don’t want to work at ever again. So, all in all, a good paid education.

It might feel good to tell them off, but it does you no good. The fact that the place is a mess is their problem.

I made a jump or two at your age that were a $10k raise. It feels freaking awesome! Toasting you tonight.
