There it was. Overheating three weeks ago in the desert.

The radiator fan was not coming on at critical points in time.

It was acting blue pill again.

And I made the mistake of letting it.

Replaced the fuse, replaced the fan relay switch which didn’t work. Replaced the radiator fan motor and that didn’t work.

Then traced things back to a primitive circuit board (think it’s a PCM or EIM) and the part that sends a signal for the fan to turn on was fried.

I allowed my Jeep to follow it’s blue pill conditioning and gave in and ordered another board. Well aware that Chrysler stopped making them in 2009 when it claimed bankruptcy. So I searched far and wide online despite knowing the after market ones never program correctly and they are all f~~~ed.

    And I was right.

So I forced a red pill down my Jeep’s throat. Installed a manual relay into the fan motor, routed the wiring into the Jeep and now have a switch I click on if the temp gets over 205 degrees.

Because the old way was not working. It wasn’t going to work. And the Sky-0 needs to stay mobilized.

Try wiring the relay to an old fashioned temperature sending unit, that way it’ll be automatic instead of Sky-O visual steam alert system!

Brilliant. Technology is terrific but complex circuitry is still light years from being immune to harsh conditions, being banged around constantly, and old age.
Bypassing the entire system with an audible alarm and manual switch is cheap and super reliable.
There’s nothing more fun than a seized motor when you’re out in the middle of nowhere.

    Poor design end of story.

Great ideas guys but I don’t need anything more than a manual switch.

I watch the temperature more than I look at the speedometer.

And it was the temp increase that initially caused me to pop the hood and notice the fan wasn’t coming on.

Way prior in November, also knew the water pump was going out before it did due to a temp increase.

Basically I flip the switch in stop and go and anything involving a hill going over 70mph.

Get a Japanese car. The new Jeeps are s~~~ and everybody knows it. Huge number of problems with them down here and getting the dealers to fix them under warranty is a joke.

Speaking from experience, that means that you are the ONLY person who is going to use your Jeep. Just make sure of that and you will be fine. Its nice to have switches to run things in your car. 🙂

Now the reason why you are not getting a Signal from the Stock PCM/BCM module is due to the transistorized relay (PWM vs Old fashioned on an off with a resistor for simple speed control)
back feeding current to the control circuit of the control circuit

That IC that controls that portion and the mosfet went dead.

It’s kind o the same thing when it comes to the PCM voltage regulator falling in most chrysler computers.

Sometimes s~~~ just happens. Its not MADE to fail, but crap happens.

I would take MGtowers advice and install the automatic system in there. But if you like it, then its the way to go.

As far as jeeps being prone to breaking. Well. The more electronics you have, the more problems you are going to have.

    Keep it Simple.

You can’t get much simpler then a manually operated switch attached to an observant pair of eyes watching a temp gauge.

Obviously, this wouldn’t work for Most female drivers. LOL

The Chinese stuff is garbage but the Korean and Jap cars are worth a look. Apparently the good old Toyota Hiluxes are getting stolen in big numbers now and ending up Iran and S~~~canistan with guns mounted on them. The Habibis love them over there !

I just got visions of a WW1 Sopwith Camel pilot looking at his smoke trail and watching his oil pressure drop!

Well, it’s simple, but NOT perfect…

Good job, Sky-O! I’m glad you didn’t dehydrate in the desert.
