Not at all man—thats a great question. Its supply and demand. IF there is a high demand for dollars the value goes up, if there is a low demand the value goes down–this means the ACTUAL supply of dollars is a way of influencing its value which is where the FED comes in as it regulates the supply of money. When the money is de-valued it buys less hence inflation and if there is one thing the FED and the banksters HATE its inflation. They will do ANYHTING to keep that from happening.

Anyway back to the topic. If Iran sells oil to countries and allows them to buy without Dollars then those countries do not need to buy dollars to buy the oil hence less demand for the dollar.
Yumbo’s point about China is pure genius—I never would have thought about that but he is right.

Now I disagree with M52. precious metals as a inflation hedge is generally a good idea but only insofar as you are either:

a) going to keep it–forever
b) wait for the collapse of markets and values of property and then swoop in to buy stuff on the cheap.

I don’t think its a good idea because the government has the power to confiscate gold—they have done it before. Also in the event of a complete collapse what are you going to buy with your coins? Are you going to enter a super-market and buy a can of beans with it? Don’t think so.
