I seem to remember many years ago hearing that people should “incorporate” themselves, don’t remember the reason why. I am no attorney and not sure if there are any here, but if you and all you own are incorporated(and corporations are considered a person outside of you) perhaps you can avoid losing it all to a woman as technically it doesn’t belong to you, it belongs to a corporation. Any thoughts?

it works more to protect you the OTHER way around.

So instead of thinking “avoid losing it all to a woman as technically it doesn’t belong to you, it belongs to a corporation”…….

It’s more like if someone were to go after the corporation…. they can’t get to YOU, personally.

But it is true, if your corporation owns a car and you don’t, you can have it set up so that technically doesn’t belong to you, since when you’re incorporated, you are merely an employee of that corporation.

When you’re incorporated , you cut yourself a paycheck. If you were to cut yourself NO paycheck this year, you would technically have no income. Your corp would have the income, but your corp can write off more than you can.

Let me add a twist you can grasp, If the “car” belongs to “you”, and you rent it to the “corporation” and it’s registered to the corporation. When someone looks to sue “you” the car’s is “registered” to the corporation. If someone looks to sue the corporation, the car is yours, and not the “property” of the corporation.

When a corporation that you own rents “everything” from “you” all that can be confiscated is the corporation sign (usually made of tin and hanging out front).

It’s a big shell game to f~~~ the lawyers out of “f~~~ing you”. So what if the plaintiff is warded one million dollars, the corporation goes bankrupt, surrenders all its “legal holdings” (the sign) then regroups under a new corporate heading with a “new” tin sign being all it “legally” owns.

    I LOVE that.

If you’re in the US, a corporation is $800 a year. Health insurance is deductible. Tools for work. Damn never everything. After the bills are paid, whatever is left you cut yourself a salary from…. so the $800 pays for itself. Easy to set one up through LegalZoom or some such service. Even your accountant fees are a write off. You’ll see very quickly there is very little to ZERO benefit in being an “employee”…… and the best part is – nobody can fire you when they hire your corp. You’re the CEO. The worst thing that happens is they don’t want to do business with you again. But they have no control over you. ZERO.

Also there is none of that 1099 tax bulls~~~. The checks go to Matoomba Inc.
This is attractive to business, because they don’t have to pay your taxes and payroll s~~~ or handle your deductions.

I was working with a company that liked to treat people like “employees”, boss them around and reprimand them, but unless they make you an offer of employment, they can never do that. You have “rights” that you don’t have an an employee. The control factor is GONE. NOBODY can tell you how do your job. NOBODY can tell you that you’re “late for work”. And NOBODY can “fire” you.

This company liked to have a strangle hold on everyone, but they couldn’t say jack s~~~ to me. I could walk in at 11:30 and there was nothing they could do. I would say until 9PM because that shows worth ethic and self discipline…. but it’s voluntary. They will notice that you’re a professional without having to beat it into you. If anyone tries to say anything to you, they can’t. They can’t even make you come to their office. They have NO power. ZERO.

The benefits of incorporating yourself are many.
If you can, get companies to hire your BUSINESS and not YOU.
If they want you as a “contractor”, they pay your corp. Then you pay yourself.

I didn’t realize until after I incorporated myself how “employment” – quite literally – turns you into someone else’s bitch.

If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.
