Hey everyone, long time no post!
I’ve been pretty busy running my driving business. I now have my beloved truck over halfway paid off. Now I have a new personal goal.
After Hurricane Harvey hit us here in Houston, there have been calls for people to help with the cleanup. I have opted to help out, and have picked up a temp job as a field debris monitor! They said there is months worth of work here to do, and I could be assigned elsewhere for other disaster relief. I’ll be working 12-14 hours a day for 6-7 days a week (not far off from my driving gig, so I’m used to long days every day). I still live in my truck, so I’ll be able to save, save, SAVE.
I want to pay this truck off in the next month or so, and then save for my own place again at last. I’m actually eyeballing some property in small town Arkansas near where I was last year. Property was cheap and I enjoyed the isolation, and I really miss it.
I have cut out every toxic woman “friend” out of my life (that’s just about all of them), and I feel exponentially better after doing so.
Now, as I save everything I can after paying all debts off and being debt free for the first time in YEARS, is there any advice any of you guys have for saving for a small house? I just need something not far off from a friggin’ tiny home…and I know those aren’t legal here in Houston.
Hey Governor
Great to hear from you. No real advice on the house, but it good to see you still hustling. I think you’ve got it down when you said save, save, save. There’s no safe ways to get your money making money for you right now. Especially if you are saving for a house.

Advise on saving for a small house? Have to be honest here, sounds like your are doing okay for yourself and don’t need too much help there.
Unless your credit is in the toilet because of past relations~~~s, then saving is the best option for the purchase for raw land.
Developing property that you don’t already own here is Texas is a bit of an issue. Looked at doing it myself. 15% up front for the loan to build. 10% up front for the loan to purchase property. These numbers depending upon the cost for each etc.
If you have good credit. Buy the property that doesn’t have deed restrictions. Park your truck there while paying off property then look at the house. Problem here is that these types of property can be in what I call country slums. You know the type, pit bulls, diseased and skinny horses, and crowing chickens in your back yard that you don’t own.
My brother acquired his property in stages and found that overall he spent less than if he had contracted everything at once.

Sounds like you’re doing awesome Brother, stories like yours are always inspirational to hear.
I don’t really have any advice on buying a home, i am still nowhere near that point myself…but it sounds like you already have an excellent plan. Keep doing what youre doing.
Good on you man, no debt = not a slave.
Keep going your own way, f~~~ these worthless c~~~s.

Anonymous42First off, Chris, We really appreciate you dropping by with good news, GREAT NEWS! You’re doing everything right, but one step at a time first the truck then perhaps some cheap damaged structure or a camper/trailer for your truck and pay the hookup fee and live in that until you can afford some land, or look for a cheap place for sale in an existing trailer park, down south it’s allot easier to live in a camper/trailer up here the pipes always freeze and they’re hard to heat. I think it’s a logical step given your position, you can always sell it when you’re done with it.
Paying off the truck is the smartest thing you can do, it becomes intangible to the bank to auction it out from under you after repossession, it’s their truck, they get all the money and you’re lucky if you get anything, even if you only owe a few hundred dollars, they don’t share the losses, they take the lions share and throw you the bones!
Hurricane Irma’s heading your way, may want to head to even higher ground! Count your blessings, you lost NOTHING to the STORM! Who could ask for more?
Great news and we will keep you in thoughts and prayers.
As stated by others, continue saving as you will find many many opportunities to spend it on once you put down roots.
Keep motivated and keep doing the good fight!

These two statements do not sit well together.
To see this through to a successful conclusion you have to get rid of ALL of them.
If you don’t as soon as you start to look like a good financial proposition, the ones that you have allowed to remain will start scheming.

Oh I get ya, absolutely. The two statements also reveal something to myself: Ditching these toxic people has already caused me to flourish. The remaining few people I know (I can count on one hand how many there are) I could keep in touch with if I moved away, as we’re all considering moving to different parts of the country.
This life is mine, this money is mine.
Just got through the training successfully. Here’s to a new chapter!
Hey gov, i like the plan of grinding hard, paying s~~~ off, then saving up. Appreciate you dropping by with the update on your success story
Bless you brother, doing good in a bad world. That’s the news that gets me a smile.
