So, there’s been a decent amount of talk lately about trying to find a side hustle or just generally getting in a better financial position. This is a concept that I read from an author named James Altucher. He has a series of books called “Choose Yourself”. One of the things he recommends is a concept called Idea Sex.

So, basically what it amounts to is making of list of what you are good at, and another list of your passions. Then go through the process of trying to link the items on your list. So, for example, I would list that I am good at taxes (been doing it for over 25 years). I have also been told many times that I am a good teacher, even by an IRS agent last week! So, teach tax classes. I have two options in this area. The first option would be to teach a college class. I have a Masters degree in Tax and my CPA license so I do have the proper paperwork to do this. The second option would be to teach continuing education classes. Basically you teach a 4 hour class, charge about $200-250 per person. I would have to pay for a classroom, but it would probably net about $4k to $5k for each class. In order to keep your CPA license current, I have to take 80 hours of continuing education every two years, so it is a requirement to take these classes.

So, to give a little homework to all of you looking to make a little extra cash, make your list and see what you can come up with. The beauty of this exercise is that none of us will have the same list. I read someone’s post last week saying that he was good with computers and liked to play games, so maybe learn how to write apps and come up with the next big game that makes millions.

I’m currently starting to work on a continuing education class, so I am trying to come up with 4 hours worth of material on a specific subject matter. The college gig I have not looked into, but I probably will in a couple years when my daughters have their drivers license and can drive to their own evening activities.

Money sucks, unless you own the printing press. I’m ready for the star trek era where machines do 95% of the work and money is a thing of the past.

People are freed from the chains of taxes and slavery to pursue the arts and music.
