The Ice Fishing Shack – Winter Refuge

I suspect someday in the distant future women will try and put limits on ice fishing houses because some guys do spend lots of time there; time spent away during a weekend where wives or gf’s might disagree. I tend to think about these things living in the far north and seeing all of these little shelters. It’s amazing how many there are. Not just a few but literally dotting the lakes all around the area. I know some guys who spend much of their free time at their ice fishing shacks in the winter .. acting almost as if it’s their last refuge to get out of the house and away from nagging for awhile. There is something so peaceful about sitting in one of these wooden shacks, heated and warm with a nice lunch and something to drink. When darkened inside, the light glows through the ice floor as if back-lit in a shade of blue from below. Some have television sets for watching sporting events, even satellite with portable generators and carpeted raised floors and microwave ovens .. most all of the comforts of home. Maybe I have nothing to worry about .. which I hope is the case. Hopefully, the women will never dwell upon these cozy little structures partially buried in snow and sitting on edges of remote lakes. Places where a guy can escape. Thanks for listening.

A modest cabin on the shore would do just as well — if you did not invite any broads to join you, winter or summer.

EDIT: A modest cabin on the shore adequately describes my situation. The only invitee is a Doberman female who is somewhat rambunctious. Even my close neighbors stay on the other side of the fence!

This thread is awesome. Ice fishing is awesome … mostly because it’s a form of hunting.

Ice fishing will probably become more popular in the future when the New World Order decides to ban factory farming and anti-feminist speech. Enjoy the fish you catch while ice fishing. They will someday be your only source of meat.

This week I discovered people ice fish for Great Lakes whitefish in shallow water. This made me do a manly little happy dance. I have no desire to own a boat big enough to fish for whitefish in Lake Superior, but to be a able to sled out a portable shack and fish for whitefish — hell yeah!

And what’s even better is that I have no wife or girlfriend to escape from. I leave a quiet house and come home to a quiet house.
