Let’s see: Newer model is exactly the same as older one but the SSD speed is faster and has a graphics card that can drive more external monitors at 4K than the last gen model.

Older models won’t let you take your calls on your computer, won’t let you do XYZ.

Buy newer. UPGRADE! Get the same s~~~ as last generation but pay $3500 for a feature that you won’t notice much or even have much use for.

Good one Apple. Guess techies are like women when it comes to ‘must do better than what I have now”.

Not to mention 1, 1S, 2, 2S, 3, 3S …..

I prefer Apple over its competitors. I ended up with a Chrome OS. Why? I’m glad you asked (even if you didn’t): It is because Apple burned me three times too many. “Your present model can’t handle this mandatory upgrade. You need to buy a new one.”

For the price of what Apple will sell me, I can have my “IT Guy” build me something much faster and longer lasting.

I paid him $1500 US for a multi-monitor desktop with a “hot swap” hard disk bay. Four years later I had the system upgraded with more RAM, an SSD and a DVD Burner for backups along with making it dual boot with Linux.

Yes, I paid the man $500 for a little TLC and upgrades, but it came back looking like a new machine running faster and better. Even a few old DOS programs I used to love using run better than ever.

I even can game on it, using only one out of the four monitors. So, spending a total of 2k with IT Guy, over four years, I still have a custom machine that runs like a charm. And, that 2k includes all the times I had him help me with something along with the recent upgrades. A good custom builder will make something that you upgrade instead of throw away. Even if I only got two more years out of it, it still is a far better deal !

I always liked Apple, but it seems to be more of a status symbol now than the computers all the graphic artists once loved.

As for reliability, I have had excellent results with Linux. But, unless you have your own “It-Guy”, it’s either Apple or crappy Windows PCs.

Meanwhile, I had a woman look at me as “crazy for wasting money” after they spend about $3750 on a dual display iMac that can’t keep up with what I have. I swore she said it looked “cute” !

That is so true. Women naturally want the newest, most flashy, and expensive thing no matter how useless it is. Try to explain to a woman all the technical aspects that make Android better and most women get lost. Open OS, OS customization, blue tooth with non android devices, stylus, wedgits, etc and they have no idea what you are talking about. That is why when you want to customize your iphone all you can do is by a case. Women like bright colors, they don’t care about the tech aspect.

Years ago when my sister needed a new computer she said she didn’t want a PC again. I told her she just had a bad experience with the Dell she had and I told her there were light weight PC’s out there and not to buy a Mac because I don’t wouldn’t be able to help her with it. Well she buys a Mac because “it’s better” and what starts to happen? She has questions and comes to me. I can’t help her and she gets mad and I tell her “I told you if you bought a Mac I wouldn’t know how to help you since I don’t use Macs”. It has happened multiple times yet most times I make her boyfriend deal with it lol.
