I guess my biggest question is….

Why do you need to believe in a Deity? Why?

The same reason why the use of imaginary numbers is employed in complex algebra.

This is posted from a phone I’ll add some more insight when I get on a computer.

It’s like asking why is Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony beautiful. If you don’t see why, someone can’t tell you. I know numbers are beautiful. If they aren’t beautiful, nothing is.”
― Paul Erdős Upon being asked why numbers are beautiful

Math is a perfect example, out of many, to be skeptical of the existence of a God. Pythagoras saw the beauty of Math in everything. Math is an Objective Principle. No amount of Cultural Relativity will change the Pythagorean Theorem. “The feels” don’t change the method of applicability to mathematical philosophy. I find Bertrand Russell’s book on the Philosophy of Mathematics to be quite valuable.

The “feels” can muck up Literature and cause students to read Shakespeare from merely a political standpoint. It can lead Art to just being Yoko Ono wailing nothingness into a Mic, or someone suspending religious art in Urine. However, that level of intellectual laziness cannot move a great structure like Math.

Aside from the common reason I am skeptical is that there is no real proof for a Deity. Many past scientific and mathematical conundrums where immediately attributed to “god.” The result’s tend to be what happened to men like Galileo, his Mathematical and Scientific discovery of the Universe earned him a front row seat for condemnation.

Belief in a deity is more of a tool to explain to yourself why things are the way they are.

I am too skeptical of the idea of deity, but more in the sense of what other people explain the deity to be I am skeptical of.

The way I Reason against my skepticism about there not being a deity is the fact that this whole reality is proof enough for me. I don’t need to see paranormal or supernatural occurrences that will evoke the emotion. The whole thing, that being what we are all experiencing right now, is the paranormal and supernatural for me at least.

Another way for me to explain god, using images

With this link brought up though, I guess it would be said then that a deity is an illusion of the brain. But then I think is my brain the illusion of the deity.

Interesting, you have commented on Chaos Magic In the past. I quite enjoy the notion of the potential supernormal aspect of magic as being associated with the essential interconnected phenomenon associated with fractals. Swirling mathematical fractals are not just noted in intergalactic galaxies but are also seen in hurricanes.

If you chose to believe in a deity, that’s fine. Keep in mind. The Map is not the Territory.
