That’s exactly what happened when it came to my parents.

As a kid, I was pretty much raised to be terrified of my dad…but not in a matter of respect, but that he’d be someone I shouldn’t even go to if I needed someone to talk to. I was raised to be comfortable only around my mom. Go figure though, she was verbally and emotionally abusive, and I didn’t learn that she was sleeping around on my dad when they were married for 20 years. He dropped out of high school to raise me (they had me at 17). When I learned what he went through and how he grew up, I became so much closer to my dad after that.

She is obsessively clean.
She arranged her own funeral already.
Has the casket and the little box in the wall picked out.
