I like to trawl through Youtube looking at different videos, recently I’ve been watching how to make cured meat naturally (cured only with salt and herbs, nothing else, no chemical conservatives).

For the meat, it’s essentially making Jerky or Pemmican (I’ve watched a lot of the dried meat videos in French as the French and Italians tend to do more “dried meats” than other cultures)

I came across a youtube channel called Jas Townsend and Son that replicates food (among other things) from the 1700s and 1800s in the US (and a bit from the UK).

So, I’m thinking if the s~~~ ever hits the fan, the techniques used 300 years ago would be useful to have as we’ll maybe not have access to the chemicals used in baking (baking powder and baking soda) and food production (conservators, nitrites, nitrates etc) that we have today.

    Here’s the Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/jastownsendandson

We’re way ahead of 300 years ago when it comes to preserving food! Pasteurizing alone saves selected foods from spoil and with CO2 gas charging dehydrated food lasts for decades! I do allot of freezing and want to set up an outdoor processing area with stainless steel restaurant table and sink I have in storage. My goal is to produce enough fruit and vegetables to last throughout the year, I’ve been going full retard on feeding myself my own food and getting better with each progressing year, I just finished my goat house today and took possession of my goats, the female is a milk goat and as soon as she gets pregnant the male will be slaughtered for the meat.

Last time I had goats for this purpose I became emotionally attached and couldn’t slaughter them, this time around and for now on they’re sizzling meat on the mangrille! They’re going in parchment paper and off to deep freeze!

Seriously, buy canned Spam. It is pre cooked so you can eat it as is.

    It will last 5 years.

Don’t forget a multi vitamin. Make sure it has Vitamin C and all the B’s.

^ most canned food lasts a really long time, way past the stated “best buy” date. As long as the can isn’t damaged or bulging, it’s safe to eat, even if the food changed color or taste.

The s~~~ty thing about canned foods is it usually has a bunch of preservatives and is light on real nutrition. Normally contains calories, sugar, fat, and salt. Lol. You’re probably better off with things like pemmican and fresh fruits and vegetables and wild game, if available.

    Great resource, Hector, thanks.

I actually ran over a rabbit today – bizarre thing to happen in suburbia – I shoulda grabbed it for dinner, but the bugger shrugged it off and hopped away. Knowing how to live without refrigeration when the time comes is a major thing.

I like this channel. Mostly because the materials are not expensive just not normally used anymore
