    Gentlemen,

I didn’t know this: How an Ad Campaign Invented the Diamond Engagement Ring In the 1930s, few Americans proposed with the precious stone. Then everything changed.

I remember my Grandma who was born in the 1910s telling me that diamond engagement rings used to be not as popular when she was a little girl, but as she grew they got more and more popular. I didn’t know all this though.

Just another scam . . . like everything else connected to marriage.

    Very interesting.

Like a bird on the wire, like a drunk midnight choir, I have tried in my way to be free.

Interesting how they are trying to break into newer markets like China but I thought the marketing and manipulation of the diamond market was pretty common knowledge even 20-30 years ago. At least I knew about it then but that didn’t stop me from getting talked into a $4750 ten year anniversary ring by my ex. F~~~ I’m an idiot.
Don’t buy diamonds! Especially diamond rings for bitches.

Everyday above ground is a good one. Everyday above ground while single...better still.

Found out about this scam a long time ago.

A Professor at the University I studied at, who was teaching partially about business models explained it once: A diamond is basically compressed carbon making its material value mostly worthless. The only reason they are costly is due to artificial scarcity created by the company owning the mines.

Once tricked my ex into admitting how shallow she was by saying this: the university has means to create artificial diamonds, quality is the same to real ones. Shall I use my university connections to make a diamond myself for your engagement ring? It would literally be a labor of my love.

Naturally she didn’t want it, called me a cheapass. So here you have it gentlemen, its not about the rock but the inflated price tag attached to it.
