I have a (very) small company and recently recruited a girl to do a small amount of work for it at weekends: she was a former student of mine, so I knew her quite well, and she was conscientious and keen, even though she’s quite young, so I thought it was a fairly safe move (the work was all simple). Her main job is at a professional services firm, and she’s not particularly hot, so I thought she would be reliable and definitely not one of those flaky narcissistic girls who are mostly useless. The work was to be done remotely and flexibly, which is a bit of a risk, but I made sure she had understood my one non-negotiable requirement: that she kept in close touch by email/phone/messaging.

The arrangement was going fine for a few months, but a couple of weeks ago she didn’t read some messages from me, then didn’t reply to emails, and hasn’t returned a voicemail I left her. I wondered if she’d gone into hospital or something, but I see she’s been active on Facebook. It’s been nearly 3 weeks now without a squeak out of her. Maybe she’s been abducted by aliens?

I cannot believe that I seem to have been ghosted by her. Wtf. She was not doing a lot of work, but it was clearly a professional engagement, I got her to sign a contract with the company, and she knows the company has a couple of big contracts which this work was directly relevant for. In my blue pill dating days, I got used girls ghosting me for no apparent reason, but I never thought one would do it in a professional context like this.

Do women just have no sense of responsibility? She’s not just someone I found in the Aldi car park, either: she’s got a 2:1 from one of the best universities in the UK, and now working at a respected professional services firm. I’d made it clear to her that it was a flexible arrangement so it would have been very easy for her to say she’s too busy with other work and wants out. I’m wondering if young women are learning that it’s acceptable to just vanish not only on the dating scene but from any commitment rather than ever having an “awkward” conversation?

I’m curious to hear from guys who’ve employed women: what have your experiences been? Any mysterious alien abductions where they just stopped showing up one day? It’s still early days for me with this company (I only started it last year), and have limited experience of getting people to work for me, so any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I’ve seen a Big John video (MGTOW is Freedom) where his advice is basically “do not hire women”, but in the UK there is equality legislation requiring you not to discriminate when hiring–any UK guys have any experience here?

In the meantime, perhaps I should call these guys:

There aren't holes in your pockets. It's called marriage.

How is it “discriminating” if you hire a qualified male ?

Obviously, you’re allowed to hire Men, So Hire a qualified Man, and see if you don’t have better luck.

If the HO comes back looking for her job, just tell her that you have re-hired for that position because you assumed that she quit.

I rent out some rooms to females sometimes and this sort of thing is very common. Most of them act like this once they start getting dick.
It changes them. They even start getting fat and ignoring traits that used to make them dependable people.

I chalk it up with them allowing their emotions to dictate over anything rational. At least she knew what she was bored to do. You suck up your losses and move on.

Well down protecting yourself with a contract etc. She can’t come after you etc. If she gets desperate and trues to sue.

Do women just have no sense of responsibility?

    No. They. Don’t.

Responsibility, accountability, honesty, fidelity, honor, and dependability are all MASCULINE abstractions. Women cannot EVER understand or employ them.

It’s a good question and I’ve just been looking into it. It seems that, if, say, a woman applied for a job at my company and didn’t get it, she can take the company to the Employment Tribunal, claiming that I discriminated against her. If on the face of it it appears that the company didn’t hire her because she’s a woman, and if the company can give no other explanation, the court can order the company to pay her damages, including “compensation for injured feelings” (this is actually the words of the Equality Act 2010).

I think the key bit is the “no other explanation” bit: of course there are plenty of legitimate reasons why you might hire a man over a woman. So I think the takeaway is that, when you’re hiring, you document everything and keep a paper trail so that you can show the reasons you hired someone.

If the HO comes back looking for her job, just tell her that you have re-hired for that position because you assumed that she quit.

That’s the plan. Not going to chase her again, just curious to see how long it takes before she comes out of the woodwork.

Good to know you’ve had similar experiences–that sucks, man. Yup, I’m used to eating s~~~ so it’s no big deal, but glad I’m not the only one who has to deal with this!

Agreed. Shame. I was all for trusting them but they f~~~ed it up.

Do women just have no sense of responsibility?

Working off the hypergamous tendencies for women in relationships, I guess similar would apply in a professional context and she just ‘found something better‘?

I had a few female friends at university who were VERY conflict averse. This sounds like something they would do.

I know it happens, but I’ve also never seen a young woman (my age range) with more than 1 job. They might think they can hack it, but there’s ALWAYS something else they’d rather do or SOMEWHERE else they’d rather be.

Remote and flexible work is an absolute dream. You did her a favour and she’s thrown it in your face

As long as you are hiring what YOU CONSIDER to be the BEST QUALIFIED CANDIDATE for THAT POSITION then you should be SAFE.

In my opinion, The BEST CANDIDATE may not be the Most Highly Qualified. For example, you my not hire a person with 20 years experience for an entry level position for a whole host of reasons, but you also may for a whole host of reasons.

I’m thinking it’s pretty damn hard to nail an employer on this unless it’s blatant, but what the hell do I know that’s what they make attorneys for that specialize in labor law, or at least they do in the states.

Maybe your best Move is to INVEST some money with an attorney for pro-active legal advice before you do something and it costs you a hell of a lot more ??

… so I thought it was a fairly safe move …

It’s no different to marriage. As soon as they’ve got their foot in the door, their true nature comes out.

Do women just have no sense of responsibility?

No. It’s one of their defining characteristics.

She’s not just someone I found in the Aldi car park, either: she’s got a 2:1 from one of the best universities in the UK …

UK degrees are largely garbage. Even Oxford and Cambridge have tickbox quotas.

Don’t hire women. You never received the application, right?

If you do interview, make sure your paperwork is watertight.

I hope you stopped sending her paychecks. If you haven’t heard from her in 3 weeks, I think you can legally assume she quit and didn’t give notice (something like dereliction of duty), and if she comes back, as has been said, “I refilled the vacancy you left.”

I’ve only had male workers but I’ve had this sort of thing happen a few times too. Usually turns out to be a drug problem. My observation is that a drug habit turns men into the equivalent of a flaky woman.

I find it amusing that it takes a crippling drug habit to make an average man as useless at work as a woman. I hope that sounded horribly sexist.

Interesting, a lot of my students are like this as well (both male and female, it has to be said). Don’t turn up to class or don’t hand in essays but don’t have the courtesy to drop you an email to say why. I wonder if it’s a generation thing too.

Agreed, and I speak from experience as a part-time academic.

Yeah I’m fine: it was a freelance arrangement so she had to bill me before getting anything. Thought I could treat a woman as an adult, oops.

You just wait until I tell HR about this! You’ll be made to watch an educational video!!

I think the shysters look for patterns in hiring and it may be that the more hiring you do, the more they can manipulate and find those patterns. Smaller businesses may not have that.

Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.

Not sure where you live, but I live in a state in the US has is a “right to work” state. I can terminate my employment with a company at any time (just as they can do to me) without a reason and without notice. Chances are, she in essence did the same thing to you. She “quit” without ever telling you she quit.

I own a business myself and I would NEVER hire a woman. I would also NEVER hire a millennial. You stupid f~~~, you hired BOTH! I don’t care how well you knew her. Women have NO sense of responsibility and no integrity, and millennials have NO loyalty, an ENORMOUS sens of entitlement and don’t want to f~~~ing work! I’d rather hire Abu Dumbf~~~ from India that can’t speak a lick of English than a millennial woman.
