I think “pimping us out” is a rather female view of it. I would say IT makers are simply trying to make us dependent both psychologically and literally on their technology. This newly mooted facebook currency for example is an example of an attempt to create real dependence. Getting the hive posting pictures of their fake lives or they feel unfulfilled is a psychological dependence as is Utube giving me links to alt-right stuff and hunting videos.

The danger is that it is a back door for the state. Get everyone’s life and wealth stuck in cyberspace and you can manage people and extract wealth a lot better.

Practically every schoolchild I see walking to school in the morning is head down, mindlessly clicking away.

I’ve talked to teachers who say that children in their schools have to have their smartphones in sight at all times. If they can’t see it, they actually start to get the shakes. Complete psychological dependence. The endorphins generated by phone use mean they are physically addicted.

It’s ironic that the generation that is so convinced of it’s genius should be so easy to enslave.

I don’t know s~~~ about Marvel, but this sounds so much like the stated strategy of the Frankfurt School. No open warfare, but rather a long march through the institutions. None of what we see today happened by accident.

…..and it’s been here for a long time. When I see most people with their cell phones, it irritates me. Every day at work, I have to sit and listen to all the annoying ring tones and text notification sounds. One day, a woman forgot her cell phone and couldn’t stand to be without it for even one day, so she drove all the way back home to get it.

I had a cell phone for a few years and now I’ve lived quite happily without one for 5 to 6 years. I have no desire to ever own one again. Even when I had one, I despised sending and receiving text messages.

I understand using one for business, but what is it about the average cell phone user that they have to be in almost constant communication on the damn thing? I lived a long and happy life before I ever got a cell phone and now I’m much happier without one. The only reason I got one was because it was cheaper than paying for long distance on a traditional phone. Now I just call people and tell them to call me back since they all have cells.

I spend most of my time at home or at work and both places have phones plugged into the wall. If I’m not at home or work, I probably don’t want to be bothered with a phone call.

Many men actually hate smart phones but they’re not going anywhere because they are too useful. We all know it spies on us, or at least has the ability to. After awhile you ‘let it go’ because you aren’t doing anything you’re too particularly worried about others knowing. I just make sure the camera can never see my hard-on LOL.

The internet and smart phones are only half way to making our species unrecognizable. Its affected way more than privacy. That lady doesnt know the half of it. The quote is from Captain America: Winter Soldier. Remove the costumes from the film and that movie is likely one of, if not the best spy movie made in the last decade. The movie is deep in a number of ways, going from corruption of government organizations, brainwashing people to be assassins, to using drones to do massive purges by elitists against their political enemies and the supporters of political enemies within the nation.

Russky2: Excellent video. Print and TV programming and advertising, long before social media, also manipulated individuals to buy goods and services. To ‘brand’ them, kind of like a hot iron, so they loyally purchase products with the leading brand names.

The smartphone to me is a tool — I don’t have Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc apps installed on it. I use it for work, to communicate, to find my way around when I travel, to manage my calendar/meetings, and to look up information.

Sandals: To me, ‘they’ are mostly just trying to SELL — sell advertising and information, and increase the value of their companies.

The smartphone isn’t different than other technology. Most people, when stuck in a line waiting, will take it out to kill time. The question is, WHAT do they DO with it? A small percentage will educate themselves, reading the news, technical publications, check their stock prices, and engage in self-improvement. The vast majority of the s~~~izenry/herd, will play Candy Crush or log into facebook for narcissistic social validation.

So at the end of the day the weak-minded are ‘addicted’ to their cell phone, just as they have to watch 3 hours of TV a day and are addicted to the idiot box. That is why they are wage slaves, unable to save and invest, think long term, or better themselves. It is ALL related, but to their psychology and motivation.

The technology is merely an enabler of their mediocrity and failures. If they didn’t have dumbphones they’d find some other useless way to fritter away their time.
