Well, you are definitely right, it is 75 cents not .75 cents. My question, though, is whether this is actually concerning mathematics or language. It is mathematically correct to say 75 cents and not .75 cents, but if everyone sees and understands .75 cents, is it therefore not an issue of language?

Suppose it depends on the sentence. In this sentence everyone knows what she is talking about so they get what she means but if she was talking about something else, if she said “this lipstick only cost the company selling it .75cents to make” would we still understand what she is trying to say?

You are right though, it is understandable what she was trying to say and I am being very nitpicky with her. I’m not normally this way but these false statements rub me the wrong way. Especially when that crap statistic is being used to successfully undercut the pay of hard working men to give handouts to vaginas.

Aside from the whole believing an untrue statistic, what she has is a unit problem, not a math problem. There is a reason why Chemistry and Physics classes drill dimensional analysis for WEEKS: Units are important, and should not be ignored.
