Google Tracking 70% Of Retail Purchases Thanks To Secret Deal With Mastercard
The deal is likely to raise broader privacy concerns about the volume of consumer data is in the hands of data technology companies such as Google. Of note, “Since 2014, Google has flagged for advertisers when someone who clicked an ad visits a physical store, using the Location History feature in Google Maps.”
“People don’t expect what they buy physically in a store to be linked to what they are buying online,” said Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) counsel Christine Bannan. “There’s just far too much burden that companies place on consumers and not enough responsibility being taken by companies to inform users what they’re doing and what rights they have.”
Google reportedly paid Mastercard millions of dollars for the data, according to two people who worked on the deal. The companies also discussed sharing a portion of Google’s ad revenue, according to one source. A Google spokeswoman denied any revenue sharing agreement with its partners – while addressing privacy concerns
———-The biggest date mining company just became that much larger. ABC already tracking date through all the companies it owns, now getting access to Master Card’s date.

Google have been really taking the p~~~ with the amount of data they are collecting over recent years.
Linking transactions via their location-tracking services is getting ridiculous even for them.
I have no problem with advertising or companies wanting to know how effective their ad campaigns have been but it is the underhand way they go about it that makes it unpalatable. Personally, I never click on ads anyway, but even that is no guarantee that Google aren’t attempting track things. They are devious, lying sacks of s~~~.
The company says that google users can opt out of ad tracking using their “Web and App Activity” online console (though no word if the service will continue to secretly track your purchases like Google’s location history, which tracks users regardless of whether they’ve turned the feature off.)
Mastercard spokesman Seth Eisen said that the company shares transaction trends with merchants and service providers to assist them in measuring “the effectiveness of their advertising campaigns.”
A few years ago I would have used google services for just about everything but have sought alternatives.
Email – now use protonmail
Search – now use DuckDuckGo
Location services – always turned off on my phone, laptop etc. and always connect via a VPN
General browsing – use adblocker, ghostery and uBlock origin. Cache and history cleared after every session. Never use Chrome any more.I suppose tracking of physical purchases can be minimised by using cash.
Not sure how general purchases online can be anonymised until crypto-currencies become more widespread."...reinvent your life because you must; it is your life and its history and the present belong only to you.” It is Your Life, Charles Bukowski.
So, Google knows I eat food and watch Netflix. They paid money for this?
Don't stick your dick into anyone you aren't willing to put up with for eighteen years and nine months.
IT is in the name, information texhnology. Everything is made to collect data about you.
If it saves me 20% off on my car parts order? And I keep getting coupons? F~~~ it. They only know what I let them know.
What you should really be watching out for is SPELL CHECK!
THAT S~~~ lets GOOGLE know EVERYTHING. Its something I made a Keynote while back. But no one seems to listen. Oh well. 🙂
You are all alone. If you have been falsely accused of RAPE, DV, PLEASE let all men know about the people who did this. http://register-her.net/web/guest/home
Just saying, there is far more info than that which is collected and analyzed.
Google has several predictive models that can predict the chances of several events based on your behavior, like you buying a new car, house, getting into the gym, start/stopping a diet, buying anything, traveling, etc…Less data you give to google, less power it has over you.
Google knows that you are a MGTOW, google knows that you visit this website.
Google knows how much you earn and how much you spend.Go to “my activity” on you google account, if you disabled everything, remember, THEY STILL COLLECTING DATA ! They are just not showing it ! If you never went there, be prepared to see all locations that you have been in the last years and several other info.
When you see an ad, go to “why this ads” page on google… You will be surprised on the profile that the google created about you, and I guarantee, this is only 1% of what google knows, it won’t confess everything that it knows about you because it will cause a lot of problems.
Try to disconnect as much as possible from google and the “Main Stream Internet”, they are the new MSM.
Just think about how ABC is now able to prefect predictive models/algorithms now with all the data is just acquired. My 2nt ex would use her card for everything. Use to drive me nuts, a soda at a gas station.
Line up 10000’s who do the same thing with search/gmail/youtube. Filter into age groups. Cooperate offices as ABC are feeling very powerful right about now, even more then they were.Like Solid said cash transactions when possible, disconnect.
