Happy Indepence Day!

The fireworks have been going off in my neighborhood for the last 36 hours and I will soon be hearing the city fireworks go off. Imagine it was the sound of muskets, rifles and cannons going off with the screams of men wounded. I think it is time to reflect on what happened in this nation in 1776 and I also remember how we celebrated it in 1976. You can still see it on our quarters, half dollars, Eisenhower dollars and $2 bills dated 1976, you might have one in your pocket right now. During the Bicentennial, we were so proud to be Americans, despite just going through Vietnam, the Civil Rights movement and Watergate. It didn’t matter what your political opinion was, we all stood together with pride because America had survived once again. We called it “The Spirit of 76”. I was in the 6th grade and played Thomas Jefferson in a school musical in 1976 (showing my age), I even wrote and sang songs for that play. From then on, I studied Thomas Jefferson, all the founders, the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Federalist Papers. I remembered them when I joined the US Navy. Those guys were by no means perfect but they sparked a fire that no power on earth could put out. The fire spread in the churches and in the pubs to the point that when the King George III’s army was sent to disarm us, we were ready to defend our Liberty with blood. We need to remember again and remember the sacrifices made by men to keep the freedom we have. So whether your ancestors arrived on the Mayflower, a slave ship or a Burlington train, we are all in this together, like it or not. I wish all of you a Happy Independence Day and may God Bless America!

It was my fathers birthday yesterday the 4th of july . Took him out for lunch and got a good black forest cake . Always remember his birthday for this reason

Well Joe, it’s like my dad used to say: “America has the most screwed up system on the face of the earth, until one sees what others have…”. Like all nations, we have made our mistakes (and continue to make them) both here and abroad but I have a documentary called: “America, imagine a world without her”. By now, I would guess that the German Nazi’s or the USSR would be ruling this planet and far more men, women and children would have been killed in war, including nuclear war. Which would you prefer: The Nazi rule, Communist rule of American rule? In the future, would Sharia Law be better than the Constitution as we are all forced to bow to Allah or die? Please, enlighten me as those are your only historical choices. Which system would you rather live in?

Once again, I will reserve celebrating Independence day for when my country is Independent again as my forefathers would laugh at the thought of celebrating it today.

Playing the victim card I see… I have had a man openly fantasize about putting a bullet in my head on these forums and in all of my responses to it I played less of a victim than you do here.
