Jan! The Trump train just keeps a Rollin all night long all day long. He may not be the savior but he’s damn closer than anything we’ve had for a very long time. Keep On Truckin brother! Perhaps Trump is considering the gold standard long ago the basis of our currency and forgotten long ago as well. Let’s hope for a better future although at times it doesn’t look that likely it is perhaps the best hope we have

I wonder how that would affect their tourism with the US.

There is clearly a story behind the scenes. The EU has taken over Greece and made them debt slaves trading under the Euro currency. Greece switching to using the U.S. dollar is a rejection of that debt.

It wouldnt change anything, it is not feasible and it will not happen. They can ditch the euro, leave the eurozone and start printing drachmas to hyperinflate their currency and wash the debts away but that is even more costly than paying off euros, otherwise they would already do this at one point in last 10 years.

Also, daily mail is not really credible in serious matters.

Actually, it will change everything for Greece. And sovereign nation can nullify the debt and seize the wealth and property of foreigners. The EU drove the Greek people into poverty and bought the property in Greek for pennies on the dollar.

Greece can reissue a new currency and trade the old currency for the new currency only the Greek people. This is how nations rebuild from a collapse.

Yeah, sovereign nation can nullfy the debt and seize the wealh and property of foreigners. Some exaples include Cuba and North Korea. Off course if natioanlization doesnt start a war right there. This is all very nice theoretical concept but not really feasible in modern world, they would isolate themselfs and long term effects would be worse than paying off their debts in its entierety.

Also, please, EU did not drive Greece into poverty, they did this to themselfs. While in 2004 Athens hosted the most expensive Olympic games to day, off course on debt other nations in EU lived within their means. Pensions for thousands of long dead people, swap contracts on debt with Goldman Sachs, and similar. They had a bonus to appear in work on time. Read this again, public sector workers had a bonus to appear in work on time. Why can Estonia have around 0% public debt ? Is the EU some evil that decided that they want to f~~~ Greece but not Estonia ?

Rationalization hamsters are vey common among women, and among those who live on debt.

I was thinking of Iceland, Argentina, and Mexico. Though, in the past France, the UK, and Italy have nullified their debts.

Yea, the EU did. The EU bribed the local politicians to take on debts from the EU in exchange for kickbacks to the EU.

Let’s be honest Pete, the debt will never be paid back. The only alternative is to leave the Euro.

I agree Joey but Greece should simply repudiate the debt and go back to their own currency. The plan of the banksters is to get EVERYONE so deep into debt they never can pay off and then yield control of the country to those holding the debt. Its insidious.

BS. Greece has made themselves debt slaves by overspending/undertaxing depending how you want to look at it(coming soon to an America near you!). The only thing bad the EU did is they tried to help them multiple times rather than just cut them loose. The whole thing would have been much better for the EU if they cut Greece loose years ago, and it would have been a lot worse for Greece because they wouldn’t have gotten multiple bail outs.

Maybe…but the plan of the Greek government for years has been to give away money they don’t have…so who is worse? The Greeks are the f~~~ ups…the bankers just the enablers.

I don’t blame eu for greece’s problems. Over half the population works for the government. That’s half the population in non-revenue producing jobs just pushing paper around. Everyone else is using cash to hide their dealings and avoid taxes. It’s a recipe for disaster that the eu didn’t create. Greeks f~~~ed themselves. Socialism doesn’t work. Eventually you run out of other people’s money.

What the European Central Bank did to Greece was deliberate.

If they don’t stay with in % of gdp debt levels the EU fine them millions

    t’s a sick joke

The EU and Eur is run by Germany and France for the good of them and them alone

Look into the truth about the roots of the EU not what the media tell you and you will see.

The ERM (exchange RATe Mechanism-precursor to teh Euro) nearly destroyed Britain. And the idiots who kept us in before we finally crashed out today still says we should join the Euro.

    Incompetenat and corrupt…

There is some validity in what you say but Greece has been preyed upon.

You know they’re just going to default eventually, leave the EU, and never pay their debts back. Right now Greece is pulling off the biggest con in history and all the good little socialist who keep tossing them money hoping to keep the failed socialist experiment going are going to end up eating it hard. The rest of Europe doesn’t have the b~~~~ to go in and take everything Greece has by force when Greece eventually tells them they aren’t paying back.

Greece right know isn’t being preyed upon…they are more like the hot chick playing damsel in distress because some stupid manginas are dumb enough to give her things.

I would agree with both Freemaan_K and Beer on this.

Greece called in Goldman Sachs to cook the books so they could join the EU. Too bad Greece – no one forced you to.

They did not see that the ECB already had a plan to use Greece / Spain / Cyprus to absorb toxic North European debt. It is widely held that the ECB wants Greece to fail for various reasons.

Switching to a new currency is not going to change anything for Greece – it will only make things worse. They are now asking to be managed by the Fed rather than the ECB. Talk about the frying pan and the fire.

The IMF (controlled by the Fed anyway) will not allow a Greek default from the ECB without penalties. It is totally upto the ECB what type of collateral they are prepared to accept.

The ECB troika will simply seize cash or bank bonds / assets in lieu of government bonds (this will require liquefying stocks and hard assets – ports, shipping land public pensions being held as collateral or else the bonds themselves ).
Greece will be Greece no more. And the Greek people have no b~~~~ to fight back (whatever happened to the 300?)

This will happen anyway but faster if Greece decides to default. Yes they will have to go back to their own hyper-inflated currency one day – as will the rest of Southern Europe.

The news here is just meaningless – but if Greece do decide to try something as stupid as this I would like a front row seat at the IMF/ECB bond auction.
