A great American Co. Hope they pull through.

They are just restructuring. They will be fine.

My SG was like an old Pontiac Catelina when it comes to it’s action, it was like old GM power steering! Going from the SG to a folk guitar is like going to stair climber treadmill on the highest setting!

I wonder if all that exotic woods harassment from the government that shut them down eventually lead to this!

All those lawyers fight lawyers @$500.00 an hr. eats up a s~~~load of guitars!

    It’s the system! That’s what’s ailing Gibson! Sure a f~~~ isn’t the product!

I love Gibson guitars, I have a Les Paul and an Explorer. But when I see the new stuff they are coming out with I really do have to wonder who is making the decisions.

Weird paint jobs, terrible shapes. Take a look at the new Flying V, have Gibson see the mean and nasty V shaped guitars other companies are putting out?
Who would want this and for $4000 plus?

Gibson are finished. Either Fender will buy the remains which will be ironic or the chinese will which will be even more ironic as fake Gibsons are currently called Chibsons but some of these Chibsons are better quality than the real thing anyway! So an older Chibson will be a fake of a real Chibson which is a fake of a real Gibson…my head hurts just thinking about it.

But the CEO and major shareholder has been at the helm too long and has lost the plot. Poor quality, stupid shapes and colours and all at premium prices. They want to be the best guitar maker in terms of price but the quality is just not there. Plus the other silly acqisitions they have made which are not even guitar related have signed Gibson’s death warrant.

If you want to see how a real high end American guitar is made, only need to look at the stuff Paul Reed Smith is producing. Even the guitars he has made in Korea ( like my SE277 Baritone) are amazing.

Sad. I think obummer played a part in this due to the raid for useing wood from India. No one else got raided?

Interesting that Martin didn’t get the same treatment… (not really shocking, though… Gibson made a relatively small contribution to the Republicans; Martin made a relatively larger one to the Democrats).

Back when I lived in the northeast, I toured the Martin plant a couple of times. I won’t buy their products because of their political leanings, but I can’t resist a factory tour.

According to an article I read (I don’t have it handy now, though), Gibson’s guitar business remains profitable — but it’s all the “lifestyle” brands they bought that dragged them down.

I do wish to publicly thank Gibson for inducing my local store to sell me a new ’58 Les Paul Historic reissue for dealer cost after Gibson decided that mom and pop music stores weren’t worth their effort.

    It’s been a great guitar.

    Always wanted an es bird-land.
    I don’t have 5-10k laying around.

    The best known possible use
    of both maple and spruce.

This one was birthed in 1963
The same year God created me.

I was bound to be misunderstood, and I laugh at those who misunderstand me. Kind mockery at the well intentioned, but unfettered cruelty towards those would be prison guards of my creative possibilities. This so as to learn as much from misunderstanding as from understanding. Taking pleasure in worthy opponents and making language fluid and flowing like a river yet pointed and precise as a dagger. Contradicts the socialistic purpose of language and makes for a wonderful linguistic dance, A verbal martial art with constant parries that hone the weapon that is the two edged sword of my mouth.
