I know this is going to make me sound like a chick because this is usually a chick hobby, but does anyone do their family genealogy? What software do you use to do it? I’m looking for recommendations, or and suggestions. I’m past the basics and have a ton of research but I need help organizing into a meaningful format.

Not a chick hobby. They aren’t called ‘forefathers’ for nothing.

I did mine on Ancestry.com. Also, for about $40 I bought their Family Tree Maker program, which has some useful functions not available on line. Works great, despite the bargain price. I don’t think you need to join Ancestry to buy it.

Of course it’s stupid because my family and my name will end with me, but I enjoy history.

I’m the last of my line as well, although I have distant cousins with the same name. It’s interesting to me now because I never learned about our family history as a kid. I’m hoping a niece or nephew will catch the bug and take the project over after me.

Hitman, Thanks, But, that implies there will be a nice woman. If you haven’t read “The Manipulated Man” by Ester Vilar. They are all like that to some extent.

I went to a Mormon church in a nearby city. They had a well equipped genealogy library with access to birth records world wide.

I was using some free software called Ahnenblatt, but I gave it up when I realized that my Brother (a Mormon) had already gone further than I ever could.
Apparently I am descended from Edward I (Longshanks) of England, which I find somehow pleasing. I also had an ancestor named “Forkbeard”. Gotta love that.
Everyone looks for the famous, glorious ancestor. I would like to know about the other guys, but nobody notes that stuff. I am sure I had a great-great-great-great grandfather name John Towndrunkington, or Percival Goathumper or something,
I did find an ancestor who was so abusive of his wife (he had several at once) that her brothers jumped him and cut off his ears. His wife had to sew them back on. Now that’s history!
With the advent of DNA testing a lot of people are finding out that they are not really related to some “ancestors”. Some of that is due to undocumented adoptions and such. Some others… the c~~~ carousel goes back a long time.
