The electric clippers I bought at Goodwill 3 years ago broke. So I had to go buy a new one for $35. Yes I cut my own hair. A Cost Cutters here costs $17 plus tip. Why the f~~~ do we tip hair cutting c~~~s?

Wealth has little to do with what you earn and everything to do with what you spend!

I tried one of those vacuum hair cutter things, but they don’t really work with my hair. Then I tried clippers but it didn’t end well thanks to my inability to see the back of my own head, so I went bald for a few weeks. Eventually I found an old-school barber, and now I spend about $40 a year on haircuts. I don’t know what I’m going to do when the old man retires.

    And what you don’t spend.

i cut my own hair for years,
fade up the sides military style.
usually after a drink or two..
then i would go to an old school barber and get it fixed..
    .
just shave it off for half the year.

I learned to cut my own hair when I was 17.
It came in handy as I grew older, especially in the field.
Now days I can cut my hair in about 2 minutes. 5 minutes, if that 1 frigging Homer Simpson hair gets sneaky and avoids the clippers.

    BTW.
The I’m still on my first set of electric clippers. My “sheep shearing” manual ones disappeared about 25 years ago.
    I’m not cheap….I’m frugal

If I didn’t have to look well groomed for work, I’d probably cut my own hair too. I don’t think there’s a way for me to get a neat haircut by myself. Heck, if I didn’t have to worry about this rat race, I’d get a mountain cabin and let my hair/beard grow. It would be great to just spend the days looking at wild animals and reading books. The rat race sucks.

My Jewish pal told me to stop tipping waitresses.

    He refuses.

My favorite, and only, brand. I too self-inflict my haircut. (I used to watch Capt. Picard reruns on a local UHF channel.)

I also wear cargo pants, baseball caps, and hula shirts — and I drive a 10 year old car. I refuse to go places where my Doberman is not welcome. So far, no one has sued me.

Wahl clippers for me to. 15 plus years and still going strong. I clean and oil them regularly. Over the years I have had two hairstyles. Clipped and tight, and pony tail. Anything in between is just waiting for it to tie back.

On another note: Jan, how is the non-smoking going? Three years this time for me. It is not an easy habit to give up and I wish you the best in your efforts. For me it was negative feelings in having to pay the ludicrous tax on a pack. I use a vape, but it is also a pain to clean and change coils. Be prepared to miss them at inconvenient times. Getting through one craving gives strength to the next.

My dad cuts my hair three times a year with clippers. He comes over (or I go to my parents’ house), I sit down, he starts, we talk, we’re done in less than 15 minutes. The end.

    Perfect.

I’ve been shaving mine using clippers and a #1 guard for 12 years now. It’s about $20 + tip for a haircut around here, and mine grows out in about two weeks.

I still hear it all the time from the folks’ and women, “You have such a beautiful head of hair, why don’t you let it grow?”

“Because I don’t want to spend the time f~~~ing with it.”

It’s great in the summer but I get pretty cold in the winters.

Been shaving my head since I was in high school and saved a good chunk of money. It’s really great.
